There should be a surtax added depending on the number of families living in one house. But then, how would the town know without maybe setting up a snitch line. No one is going to fill out the census ratting themselves out.

This is Canada. No India, Pakistan, or another Western Asian country. Canadians have their own ways of living and their own build plans. If a certain culture doesn't like how things are done here, then they didn't have to come here. My family are all immigrants and they don't go complaining to the government because we can't do something that is a part of our culture. I'm sure that there are plenty of houses outside of Brampton that are large enough to hold many people. Have they looked into moving towards Ancaster or Guelph? Lots of large houses there.

While I understand why they like bigger homes, their motion is stupid. They didn't buy the land, they didn't zone it, they didn't pay for architect's plans, they didn't get it approved from the city, they aren't selling them.

If they were only arguing that the townhouses would devalue the larger homes in the area, ok - I could buy that and possibly get behind that. They aren't arguing that. If the market of the area doesn't/won't support the smaller townhomes, then the market will speak by having them not sell and the builder having to reduce prices.

If they wanted the land for larger homes, they could have bought it themselves and went through to motions.

This is stupid.

Brampton was set aside specifically for east Indian immigrants. They should be allowed to cram as many people into as little space as possible and live just like they did in the country they fled for it’s terrible living conditions. If we don’t like it, then we shouldn’t have created Brampton in the first place.

And they should save a fortune in property taxes for doing so. It’s not their fault we have the stupidest taxing methods imaginable for funding municipal services.

I propose we use the 705K budget surplus to encourage Mattamy to build more townhouses in Milton.

Investing in our future today.

That article is hilarious. Can't believe they're actually making that argument. I hope that builder is allowed to proceed.

From the comments section under the article

"SIGH. This article is so biased I dont even know where to start. I live in that area and as a white woman I agree with the opposing of the town homes. We were initially promised a commercial space and there were talks of a park. The MAJORITY of residents dont want townhomes because the area is already congested. Where did this ridiculous 2-3 families per home notion come from. That is just not the case. Every punjabi person I have talked too does not care that the homes are not big enough."

"It has nothing to do with town houses or big houses.I live in the area and when I talk to my neighbours, they are more concerned about kind of people moving into those townhomes. Their main concern is people from Jane/Finch moving into this area and bringing same gun culture and crime here. If you drive by Torbram and Father Tobin area you will see what I am saying. All the neighbourhood is full of those people and already "other people" are concerned for their safety during night when bunch of teenager sitting outside on the street and yelling and screaming to passerby. I know one girl whose purse and iphone was snatched by bunch of those goons right after sun set last summer. "

So it's alright if it's a "not in my neighbourhood" type of thing. Sort of like the "well to do" don't want the "have nots" living down the street from them.
