I thought I would post this to help out new homeowners increase the value of their home with very little work.
I sold a property about 2 weeks ago in the original Hawthorne Village. 12 years old and a Mattamy Lindsay model. The home was nicely upgaded inside but not over the top crazy. The selling feature was the backyard and more specifically the mature trees. The sellers had the insight when they moved in 12 years ago to plant trees in their backyard and now 12 years later they've reaped the benefits. We sold for a record price. Mature trees are a rarity in "new" Milton and buyers absolutely love the privacy and shade they offer.
So, to increase the value of your home down the road, when you first move in plant some trees! You'll thank me when it's time to sell.

Thats a great idea esp since most new homes have such small backyards!
I would think we'd need to wait till we have a fence up... but that would be a another post.

Pick a fast growing Willow, our house is 8 yrs old and our neighbour's willow is taller than the house - it is SO big, we actually took down the lattice part of our fence in the corner and built a treehouse around it for the kids, with ladders from both our backyards

if it grows ontop of your neighbours can they cut off the part that hangs over their property line?

What about fruit trees? any recommendations?

I'm no arborist, but based on what I've read and heard, a willow would be the last thing you would plant on a puny new lot in Milton. Their roots grow like crazy and the tree becomes massive.

It is in the back corner, and I love that it is big. I think my neighbour said it was a corkscrew willow, with a 30 ft max diamater, it is planted over 20 feet from the house, so that should be fine (since the radius is 15). I think they did the research and asked (I believe at Terra) before getting it. Who knows, but having a treehouse with a working chandelier (lol) in new Milton is totally worth it with the joy the kids get out of it!
