I can see it now: trucks driving on Ontario St. To the 401.

That is of course until the new tremaine Rd 401 access is built then the big trucks will passing right by the MEV or should I say the velodrome because I don't think Laurier would want to be putting a satellite campus anywhere close to the proposed cn rail yard. Is there a petition started yet?

it should have been an ominous sign that the new grade separation infrastructure (recently built louis) and currently being built (derry) all can accommodate a double track.

If the terminal gets built, you can be damn sure they will need dedicated double tracked lines for efficiency in and out of there.

This is the CN line that runs right down to port of Hamilton. Great 407 access and 401 access and with a new tremaine entry point to 401...... (along with James snow).

Don't forget.... Milton will be a great source of truck drivers, a significant hurdle in the transportation sector is a lack labour avilability, a gap perfectly filled by new milton residents...it is an ideal spot.

I'm opening up an AZ truck driving school beside the nail salon.

Here's my question - how long has the Town/Region known that CN owns this land, and what did they possibly think CN would do with 1000 acres besides an intermodal facility? Did they just assume CN would hold the land forever and build nothing?

And did anyone else laugh at the various quotes in the Star story about how well managed Milton growth has been?

"the region’s carefully crafted growth management strategy."

"Mann and Mayor Gord Krantz told the Star the town has been “blindsided” by the plan " only way to be blinsided is to be willfully blind to the possibility in the first place!

"Under Sustainable Halton, the region’s widely lauded plan for growth management, the land has been earmarked for strategic employment, with a mix of residential and commercial development surrounding it, as well as environmentally protected lands." 2 comments on this one - 1) any explanation how the plan is widely lauded, and by who? 2) How exactly does the Region 'earmark' land that they do not own and have no control over? Can I "earmark" the land near my kids school for building a Costco then?

"“It’s completely contrary to what we had planned,” Krantz said" Again, plan all you want, but you don't own or control the land.

I think we need a new town slogan - "Milton - more reasons to move everyday!" :-) that being said, until I am fed up with the fast growth, lack of.poor planning, lack of commercial, lack of employment lands, etc. enough to move away, I will just keep coming on the message board to complain about it. When I get fed up enough, I will move somewhere else. Simple right?

These comments at the bottom of the article are so stupid. We all look like geniuses.

I really enjoyed this gem:

In fact, under C-51 every one of these residents who are even discussing this, as well as the journalists reporting it and everyone on this forum is culpable and 'guilty' of terrorism promotion. I wish I were making this up but this is Stephen Harper's Canada folks. For real. We just turned the corner to a dangerous police dictatorship.

Hilarious.

I don’t know all the ins and outs of that area and what is planned to be built there, but just looking at a map you can see that it’s all residential to the north and south of the area. It looks like the absolute worst place to stick any major industrial complex.

Those tracks snake through Milton and out North of the 401. To me, that would be the ideal location as it’s all light industrial there anyways. I imagine that’s not possible for some reason, but that’s what we should be trying to do if at all possible.

This sucks. At least that area isn’t built up yet, the town could plan around this and rezone the area. Maybe we just fill the area with cheaply built condos and town houses with their backyards in the front of the house. Then at least it will look like it was planned to be a slum. Just like we did on Main St.

C'mon! these are jobs for Milton truckers and logistic!! just look how lively this place is!!

http://www.torontotransforms.com/wp-con ... ardweb.jpg

I'm sure it also does put some brakes on Tremaine/Brittania development... After all who would want to move into an area where trucks become the new bike/joggers lane hoarders...

Did anyone sign a house yet in that new development area?? Hurry now run!!

Facts are better than speculation. HERE are the lands that CN owns already. Halton region owns a piece on the other side of the tracks. By the looks of this, all plans will see 401 traffic up through Tremaine.

This can't be a surprise. And I think it is uncool that the mayor thinks we the residents are going to stand up and fight the battle.

Would this mean bye-bye education village? Hard to imagine exactly where this is planned.

I thought something like this was to go out by the 401 and Trafalgar?

I never thought we had such a low level of intelligence in the GTA (based on the comments.)

But then again, they did vote Ford.

Hope not. There is a huge intermodal just north of York U - doesn't impact it at all.

Yeah.. that one is close, but technically in another city. Also, not sure which of those came first.

Anything that wrecks the the plan of the education village should be fought tooth and nail imo.

Thank you for posting the CN land boundaries, this is really helpful.

While Tremaine will eventually connect with the 401, it does not connect with the 407 or the 403. I assume the trucks will still need to use hwy 25 to get to the 407/403. Either way, a lot of Milton residents who use Tremaine and Hwy 25 (including me) aren't going to be happy about this.

Fully agree with you on this not being a surprise. The town should have been aware that CN owned this sizable portion of land and planned development accordingly.
