I wish that the installers of AC's in new homes would first confirm that the furnace is installed properly and that the HRV is running as it should. IMO this should be done before the AC is installed to avoid disputes between the installer and the builder as to who is responsible to repair any problem that may come up.

Good point but specifically what type of issues are you referring to with builder's installation of furnace and HRV?

Before your AC is installed have the installer confirm the furnace "sequence of operation" is correct. That's all I will say about that. I'll keep the HRV operational issues / problems for my customers but lets just say that you should make sure it shuts off when it is supposed to.

It looks like this issue is getting better these days but it was not long ago when many furnaces in Mattamy built homes had condensate leaks in them. If for example someone took possession of their home in the fall and ran their furnace all winter and leaked, then when the AC is installed in the following spring then IMO the installers of the AC should point this problem out to you.

Here are some pictures of installs done by others that are just plain "POOR" .We see this every year .
Someone used gas pipe as a drain pipe for the AC Evaporator coil which rusted in no time because it is just black iron unprotected pipe and not galvanized then it will get so plugged up with rust that the condensation will back fill in the coil and spill inside the furnace taking out what it likes with it !!
Come winter there will be no heat .
Another picture you can see the armaflex insulation not completely covering the suction refrigeration pipe which will cause condensation to drip on the basement floor and if that basement gets finished then it is going to drip on the new drywall in the ceiling causing a water stain mark .
Another picture you see the high voltage (230 volts ) red wire running with the lineset which is a clear violation of the electric code that the ESA is supposed to enforce ! This install would never pass ESA inspection.

Agreed thats a bad one. I have seen worse. Please do your research when selecting a AC/Furnace contractor, price is not always the most important factor.
