Vote for me because I'm not the Liberals seems to be the best they've got.

This works a treat on Canadian voters and they all know it, many examples most recently by T2 over Harper. Trudeau won on a platform made up of 90% horseshit, buzzy silly crap like election reform and weed. All he had to do was to invent a fake counterpoint to "The Old Guys" to capture people's imaginations, it didn't need to be doable or valuable or even desirable. It worked, people loved it, and he would never have been elected without it.

Fordsie won't have anything too surprising to say anyway, actual conservatism is fairly predictable and boring. Also they don't want to go tipping their hand unnecessarily or early, for fear of spooking the buyer like Whatshisface did in 2014. Ford will "reveal" his platform only if questions become louder, only if he thinks it will cost him a majority. Otherwise surf's up, no worries! Scheer will have a harder time defeating T2 though, but I can't wait to see him try.

Wait, so you’re not gonna vote for Jagmeet Singh?

Nope. Only consider it if he gets rid of that leather strap across his chest. Probably a PEZ dispenser anyway.

The turban is a little much as well. I find it hard to vote for people who flaunt religion.

We have no idea what we want apparently, and so groomed and preened caricatures like Singh, like The Dauphin, even like Fordsie are what we get for politicians. Dull, steady competent daily-driver types need not apply, no voter appeal for them anyway. Let's redefine "progressive" as a package of policies that ensure this country even exists in the next 50-100 years, can someone do that please? Not optimistic.

Everyone knows Trudeau won because of his hair! It had nothing to do with Harper clinging onto a slim majority government for years and then going ahead and alienating most of the country outside of Alberta. His hail Mary Islamophobia strategy at the end kind of backfired on him too.
But you're right, the Trudeau vote was largely a "he's better than the other guy" and look where that has gotten us. I guess we should try it again with a Ford now!

Heard Rob Ford on the radio yesterday - not bad, I can totally fall for his brand of bullshit.

Never gonna vote for him but I won’t be butthurt if he wins. He’s gonna pay for 75% of my daycare costs with ‘efficiencies!’

Do we have an independent candidate in Milton? If so they likely have purple hair and think the earth is flat but they may still be better than the other clowns.

Had a bunch of people over last night. Got talking with be parents, in laws, their friends etc about the election, and not one of them plans on voting PC. All undecided but want to vote for whoever can stop Doug Ford. I was quite surprised to hear that!

Ford appears to be losing the ‘old stock white ontarian’ vote, which could prove troublesome.

Was this focus group properly populated, or were they selected from a group made up of like minds, perhaps unified by a common profession? I get out to those parties too, it's exhausting at times isn't it? Talk about aggressive bully groupthink!

One narrative hook that the Wynne Liberals have managed to set in with their base is that Ford is the figure of The Trump, a scary shadow figure on the wall, meant to frighten people. This is complete BS I think, and it's a sign of desperation from Wynne. Ford does not make the same sounds as The Trump, and I don't expect him to.

One group that fears Ford are the public unions, which is not surprising. But I'm not sure it is swaying all that many people away from a more-or-less garden variety Conservative message by the way, and how DARE you bring up race at a time like this!

The PC lead shrinking to, of all parties, the NDP. Even keeping Ford on a tight leash doesn't seem to be helping. Still lots of time left though so we'll see. I figure the last week of May is when people will really decide who they'll hold their nose for when they vote. I'm going to delude myself into thinking that voting for a better local candidate will make everything alright.

Well, if you think the Liberals’ time is up and you can’t stomach the thought of voting NDP, it seems like the cluster*#%*$ will continue for 4 more years. Maybe it’ll even get worse!!

What's the alternative to Ford, Hodor?....A socialist NDP government that would cripple the province economically?...Does anybody in your so called group of friends actually run a business? Have anything past a high school education? Lemme guess...they must be all civil servants or really unsuccessful people...anybody I know with half a brain is furious with the Liberals....The Liberals have run debt to insane levels, massively increased our taxes, hydro costs etc. It is insane how anybody could vote for the Liberals after what they've done. I get Ford isn't perfect but man there is no alternative.
