My wife's best friend moved to the states, Arkansas. I am going to visit her for the first time since she left 2 years ago.

What does your wife think of visiting her, is she OK with that? :D :D

Don't fly with a jar of pickles. They aren't packaged for that type of air pressure and dill pickle juice is impossible to get out of clothing.

Good point. I always drove to visit my father so it wasn't an issue.

WE are driving down together. Going to make a road trip. I'll be able to load the car and not have to worry about exploding pickles.

I thought Kinder Surprises were considered illegal, and subject to fine if found in the US?

My aunt in L.A. always wanted us to bring down Coffee Crisp chocolate bars.

That's because there is no better chocolate bar in the world.

Other things that are Canadian only:

Shreddies
Caramilk
True back bacon/peameal bacon (though might have trouble getting it across the border)
Nanaimo bars
Jos Louis (wagon wheels don't cut it)
Pineapple Crush

Sad reality is most Canadians who leave for the U.S. Seldom come back. The quality of life is way better down there. If you have a 500k house down there, you can guarantee no one will be parking on their lawn. For 190k you can get a 3000 sq ft home in a great school district. I'd move there in a heartbeat. What about health care? I can buy a lot of insurance when I have no mortgage, 30% cheaper groceries, 70% cheaper house and car insurance and 40% cheaper gas and clothing.

But how much lower are the wages of a typical average middle income earner? I understand that in some states it is significantly lower. I visited a plant in South Carolina a few years back, and the average wage paid to shop personnel was $4.25 Probably a bit higher now, but not much. Yet their standard of living was about the same as here. So you can not just look at part of the equation.

A friend of mine lives near Philadelphia in a normal average home. Real estate taxes, not including education, are $2,500 annually. But his education taxes are $6,000 on top of that. So who is better off? :?:

Philadelphia is a little high for taxes, factor in 40% less in fuel costs, at least 30% less in groceries, and at least 50% less for insurance a middle class existence is way easier in most states. As for what someone in a store makes, it irrelevant as I don't work in one.

The USA has a much better supply of ... oh those little things that fly through the air, what are they called? ... oh yeah, "bullets".

I'll stay put, thankyouverymuch.

Shop as in a manufacturing plant, not a retail establishment.

An 80k a year income is a much better existence in the U.S. Than here. As for the violence, it is very well conpartmentalized. A good school district in a U.S. Suburb is every but as safe as here. and yes, the other statistics are true, on the whole we are better educated, and healthier but in the U.S you have a very very poor underclass of about 10% that really scews the stats. As far as an average person in our situation and above, the quality of life is much higher.

Starting wages for professionals are higher, less barriers to in field employment for foreign trained professionals. weather, entertainment options,,
