Anybody gonna be brave enough to try and stream the Mayweather / Pacquiao fight rather than pay for it via pay per view or go out and watch the fight somewhere?

I'd love to try it but my buddies get a little pissy when you invite them over to watch a fight and it ends up getting cutting off half way through.

One of the coolest things about xbmc since 2003 was when you had an HD video that is split across many compressed formats (rar, zip, 7zip) it would actually decompress it on the fly.

My Boxee Box does this.... I always loved that feature.. I was happy to see Kodi has the same when I switch from my Boxee Box.

Vdubt25 is a very good add-on. It got live streaming including a number of Canadian channels (CTV News and CP24 in HD!). Also add Navi-X. It's a very good portal.

You could also configure Live TV using PVR IPTV Simple Client. There are alot of "How To" videos in youtube.

Just be reminded that IPTV consumes ALOT of data bandwidth in the internet. If you have a limited one, monitor the amount of data you consume. You don't want to pay extras at the end of your billing period.

I got fed up dicking around with cheaper media streaming boxes, painfully slow UI and/or inability to stream 1080 fluidly (sometimes even 720), so I bought a 5th gen i3 Intel NUC. A bit pricy but my savings from ditching Cogeco cable will pay for the NUC in 9 months. Does the job with ease, XBMC/KODI well supported for Windows.

HDTV antenna + Netflix and other internet streaming (unlimited internet) = haven't looked back. B'bye Cogeco !

What are people using to stream with, apart from Netflix? I’ve been slow to get into this and I tried Popcorn Time the other day, but it began pausing to buffer midway through the first TV show I tried to watch. I was left with the impression that these programs aren’t all that great.

Is there anything out there that works?

I got a MyGica box a month ago and cancelled our cable completely. :)

I can watch all my shows, find stuff for the kids and if I can't find the stuff, I can copy video files WMV/MP4, etc onto a USB thumb drive, plug it into the Gica and run them from there. Saving us $42/month to Cogeco when we weren't using cable more than maybe 4 times a month.

If you watch a lot of PPVs or live sports, then the Gica may not be a good choice for you. There are live TV streaming applications, but they are mostly hit and miss.

But again, for watching regular TV shows, just wait a couple hours or the next night and it's there for you to watch.

I highly recommend the "Genesis" video add-on for Kodi/XBMC. You find virtually everything with it. I've even installed Kodi on my desktop computer so my kids can watch their stuff on the TV and I can watch my TV shows on my computer.

Hi Guys

So I'm ready to take the plunge and upgrade my MyGica box from 4.1 to 4.2 and then upgrage my Frodo XBMC to the current Kodi Software, 14.2 I think. Problem is I've been reading about "bricking" the box, rendering it unusable. That being the case I'm a little apprehensive to try to do this myself. My other problem is that I don't have a mini SD card. I was told you can use a USB stick but again because of the "bricking" factor I am afraid to deviate from the seemingly all important step by step upgrade process. My other issue is I can't seem to open any of the pdf instructions posted on line. Perhaps the issue is that I haven't found a recent post about it. Long story short, is there anywhere I can go in town or surrounding area to have the upgrade done by someone who has a clue?

Thanks!

I've always relied on youtube and I'm not that techsavvy -mind you i'm getting frustrated setting up my tablet running Kodi with iStream (a buddy swears by "istream" but i can't get the damn thing installed)

what kind of box is everyone using? I'm in the market for a new one... $100-150 if at all possible 2gb RAM is apparently key -Kodi for software... wired locations so wifi is not my main concern
MyGica is in contention -a friend of mine says he loves it but finds the 1gb slightly sluggish

Ps I am happy to see seanc7 mention Genesis as I'll be trying that out soon instead of iStream

I have MyGica and it works well. Plus the manufacturer is Canadian so thats a plus that you are supporting a local business.

The only challenge is your viewing experience is only as good as the stream you are choosing. It does take some time to find the right one.

Take a look at Raspberry Pi.

From my personal experience, Kodi/XBMC runs best on a Windows PC. I ran an HDMI cable from my Win 8.1 desktop upstairs to the TV in the living room and control the PC through a Logitech wireless media keyboard (K400). It's so much faster and smoother than any Android box.
I also recommend Genesis - you can find virtually any movie or show you want, most of the time in HD. It's that good I even cancelled Netflix, I have yet to come accross something I couldn't find on Genesis. I'm watching House of Cards Season 3 in full HD right now.

Here's a link to Genesis installation guide (manually): https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-manual ... -for-xbmc/
Or you can install Fusion first, then search for Genesis and install it automatically: http://www.tvaddons.ag/fusion-installer-kodi/

Thanks for the info. Although I'm not all that tech savy either I usually install my addons using YouTube tutorials. My concern is u haven't found a video or tutorial that has the file still working or there are a dozen comments about how the instructions bricked the MyGica box (bricking the box renders it useless). I did figure out that it's possible to upgrade to 4.2.2 via USB stick instead of a mini SD card.

All that being said my question stands, us there anywhere I can go to get the 4.2.2 upgrade done by a pro or at least someone who's done it before?

Thanks guys!

If PC is not an option, this is the box I used to have, with good results. Specs are great.

What I would do though, is get the Nexus Player from Google and sideload Kodi on it. This way you are sure to get auto updates directly from Google and just worry about updating Kodi from time to time. Plus, if you're an Android user you can sign in with your gmail account and access everything just like on your phone. Nexus player also doubles up as a Chromecast.

thanks marquis
would not go nexus... as much as my WIFI runs well in my house, I would not tempt fate with WIFI only
will look into Geniebox though!!

windows is not really an option as i don't have any older (but still working) laptops I can use (and the cost of a new one would be more than the media players)

Vcola, sorry, I understand your fear of bricking... lots of talk of it with my PBO (back in the day) but I never had it happen to me -I bet you'd do fine, ROLL THE DICE!!

never knew costco and best buy carry the mygica!!
