Graceful and humble, Zeeshan Hamid thanked his rivals for assisting him in the removal task which otherwise would have cost him time and energy.

Only two Pakistani candidates won throughout the province of Ontario. The support of Pakistanis and Non Pakistanis alike paved the way for their victory. Do I have to mention again that support in Canada is only possible in exchange of service?

Weird article...
Why it is two times shorter in original language?

Zee is regular Canadian dude, who has no ethnical issues and came here from Seattle.
Same like calling Ignatieff as Russian, if you know whom I mean.

Hi, this is Canada, not Pakistan. It's not about having Pakistani people running the country or city or whatever.
I actually find this kind of racist as a Canadian.

Yeah who cares if they're from Pakistan?

People that care about that sh*t are idiots wasting their vote. Vote for someone with a platform you believe in.

Having said that, that guy (who i won't name but I think is from Pakistan) with the Facebook posts with fake Facebook profiles supporting him is also an idiot. No wonder he didn't win.

what makes someone graceful and humble? I don't think any of the candidates were going around saying "In your face!" after they won. Arent all of them graceful and humble?

I just posted the article from Dawn - Pakistani newspaper. How did I become racist for doing that?

We get people from different parts of world living in Canada, and I am proud to say I am Canadian. The post title didn't allow me to put more verbiage in it, which is why I couldn't add more text in there ... I know Zee is Canadian, but Pakistani descent.

People here call themselves African American ... isn't that racist then?

I posted the article to state that I had the same feeling about other candidates that were running in the last elections where people show up from no where, and try to compete for the Councillor posts - not knowing Canadian system, etc. How can one vote for them? Just because they have similar ethnic backgrounds? Is that enough to vote for someone? I don't think so ...

You guys just turned the post into a racial war! LOL

That's actually a really good article. Got a good chuckle out of it, and lots of stuff actually makes sense.

1- The fact they equate themselves with being American is generally acceptable. I think if people called themselves things like African Canadian and at least showed some pride in the country that supports them it would be better than simply saying African.

2- Africa is a race now? Last time I checked there were lots of very distinct peoples living everywhere from Egypt to South Africa. (Or is America now a race of people?)

I'm pretty sure in Canada we've accepted explaining someone to black, white, brown, Asian etc. so some brown Canadian got elected whopty do. I'm sure he's up to date with Canadian politics and is good at it so that's why he got the job. Saying he's 1 of 2 packistan guys is just bigotry thinking.

What a stupid article.

I thought it was pretty funny, actually. The article mainly talks about how many weak 'Pakistani based' candidates there are running for office and how they are being seen as an embarrassment to the Mother Ship.

Zeeshan is Pakistani? You don't even need to be a Canadian to run for local or Provincial politics?

I think that's the most honest writing on the subject I've read in a while. Not racist in any way, and no-one should be called racist for finding it well done or interesting.

One thing apparent, since it was written by a first-gen immigrant, I think it's got credibility. What do the "Dominant Society" types like myself know what it's like to come here as a FGI, and to try to get along here? Pretty much nothing. What the author is trying to explain to his FGI readership is that it is a huge error for these candidates to try to appeal only to their own sub-community.

One of the things that got up my nose about Abubaqr's on-line campaigning was him busking to his global desi for campaign support (read: "funding"). From a "Pakistani Villager" forum: **

http://www.siasat.pk/forum/showthread.p ... rio-Canada

Unwise.

** Edit: CAUTION: make sure you have active good quality anti-virus, this is a bit of a spider web link, pop-ups aplenty ... Sorry!
