Hello, What is the current zoning bylaw in regards to detached homes with a single car width driveway? I am debating with TASTEFULLY getting my driveway width increased and im wondering what width can it be? I wont be thowing down gravel or old used patio stones over grass. I am going to contract out landscaping to the front of my home and my incorporate a wider driveway if its legal. Thanks |

We checked last winter as one of our friends had to get it done, home owner can have maximum width of 19'. However you can reconfirm with the town. Thanks |

The maximum width of your driveway depends on the width of your lot. With that info and like PP says, call the town. |

Yes it depends on the lot width. I did it tastefully (in my opinion) 2 years ago. Called the town and left a message, they got back to me same day and he pulled up a map while I was talking to him and he gave me the details. I asked for an email confirming the conversation and he emailed within a couple of hours. |

Oh and if you are looking for contractors I used paradise contracting and was happy. These companies seem to book up early so I would suggest locking things in by may. |

It is a % based on the foot print of the house. Any paved area as far as the town is concerned is a driveway. They do not allow you to extend the paved area outside of the house footprint. For a 36 ft wide it's about 19 ft wide. Widened in of the boulevard is not allowed, although people do it. |

I’m lucky that patch of owners is around the corner from me so I don’t see it unless I’m driving out of my court. My part of the strip is all premium backyards and I’ve found that attracts people who give a crap about their property. |

My part of the strip is all premium backyards and I’ve found that attracts people who give a crap about their property. I'm always puzzled by the external design of the townhomes in my area... never figured out which is the front or back. The side that faces the main road appears like the front of the house but has the much larger yard, the other side (backyard ?) has the driveway and often an L shaped wooden privacy fence with a small patch of grass in front of it. That's the "additional parking" that I previously mentioned which I unfortunately get to look at. Residents seem to sit out on this side... hardly anyone uses the larger grassy area on what I would consider the real backyard... probably due to the traffic noise from the main road. Shitty design IMHO. I must be getting old.... the longer I live here, the more annoyed I seem to get by the ramifications of densely packed neighborhoods in Milton. Homes are just too close together... from parking issues (or the lack thereof) to nowhere to put your snow in the winter, I think they've exceeded the limit to get as many homes out of a parcel of land as possible. Then there's the ever increasing traffic. Ya, Mattamy loves Milton ! No wonder everyone here on HV seem like crotchety f'ers... put too many rats in a tight place and they start killing each other. |

my friends in condos complain that they are too small. Its the same thing. It all comes down to the same thing, if you want a bigger place, get a better job. If you cant get a better job and don't like the size of the place you can afford, stop whining. |
