Hi, My sump pump is on the opposite wall from the electrical panel. The electrical wire was run through the ceiling to the opposite wall and down behind the insulation and vapor barrier to the electrical outlet. The surface mounted box was mounted on a 2x4 that was screwed into the concrete wall. The insulation surrounds the sides of the box and the vapor barrier has been tuck taped around the box. Is running wire behind the insulation acceptable wire protection? I looked through the "electrical book simplified" and it was not specific on what was acceptable protection. Any thoughts? I am thinking of adding a couple of electrical outlets to the basement in this manner. I would add the outlets to the same circuit as the electrical panel outlets. Are there any concerns with adding outlets to the gas water heater electrical outlet? Both the electrical panel outlet and the water heater outlet have their own dedicated fuses. Thanks |

"Protection" from what ? It's fine. Don't add outlets to the water heater circuit. If you must, add an outlet to the sump outlet because, believe it or not, it does not need to be dedicated. Better yet - just do it properly and install a new breaker at the panel for basement outlets. |

Anyone know the cost of adding an electrical outlet in the basement, or of an electrician who would do this? |
