How come they can't design a lock mechanism that works? Or a handle not made of wood that falls off? Even the after market stuff has the same flawed design. |

I found lubing the living sh*t out of the lock worked on ours. I used a lithium cream lube, very long lasting. Ours is the type with a "toggle" style lock lever within the handle, that works a hook that grabs a pin in the frame to lock. I couldn't see any adjustment possible in there, the lube worked great. Our handle was wobbly as well, until I Loctite-ed the living sh*t out of the four mounting screws (two handle to door, two handle to wood grip). Locktite works on wood? who knew. Crazy glue doesn't after a few months. |

I'm 99.9% sure mine had threaded anchor lags pressed into the wood, with female threads. Too late to check now! If yours is just wood, maybe use something to shim out the ruined holes - toothpick or splinter - along with something stronger for a glue, like PL Premium or Goop (Marine). Maybe the sun is drying out your "super" glue. Those products do not shrink or dry out, as they're basically plastics! Gorilla Glue is similar I think, but never tried it. OR, as an alternate plan, just put up with it until your door glass seal fails 3 months past any warranty coverage offered by the tramps that made it. Just like ours. That way, screw it! Just get a whole new handle with new door attached! |

We lived with one of those crappy builder doors for about ten years....aluminum, two single pane sliders on each side, lousy rollers, lousy lock, etc. We finally got a new one and couldn't be happier...vinyl casing, thermo pane glass with argon, anti-jimmy lock, double rollers each end, etc. It was made by this company http://www.strassburger.net and installed by these guys http://www.qsiwindows.com. John Allingham John, may I ask how much the doors and then the installation cost ? I've been struggling with the same thing for too long. It's gotten to the point where my wife has a hard time opening/closing the door. We're considering a move but suspect it could be considered a safety issue, that's how bad it is, so it should really be replaced. Thanks, Hugh. |
