Post subject:  traffic from plaza - SE corner of Steeles Av & Ontario St
In past few days I have noticed that people coming out of the plaza on the SE corner of Steeles Av & Ontario St drive wrong way to get onto Ontario St going South.

Specially in the evening time when light is not that great (evenings are darker now) - it is really difficult to judge the oncoming traffic from the plaza when you are going North on Ontario St. I am afraid that this may result into a serious collision one day.

I am not sure who the councillor of that area would be, however, if any councillor reading this post can bring this to Town staff's attention, it would be greatly appreciated. I know extending the road divider will be costly, however, atleast putting those stick dividers would help, which would prevent people from driving wrong way to get onto the Ontario st.

Here is what I am talking about:

*Note: I have noticed people coming wrong way atleast 70% times I have passed through that plaza - specially at night time.

As I was taking this picture, a BMW came the wrong way - I tried taking a picture of it, however, the picture became blurry due to my camera flash and their headlight.

Yellow lines on the picture is my suggestion of putting the middle divider sticks. Red line and arrows indicate the people coming out of the plaza to get onto Ontario St.

This has been going on for over 20 yrs and I have not seen or heard of an accident. Also extending that barrier would deny access to the businesses on the west side.

It's only 2 car lengths to get past the median.

I have made that turn myself. Maybe not correct but I feel I have less a chance of an accident there then trying to make a left out onto Steeles across the lanes there.

There's a mechanic's across the street, so extending that concrete barrier I don't think is an option. The councillor for that area would be Rick Malboeuf. Given the increased traffic in the area with industry, gas station etc, I don't think there's much that can be done. If you're careful, and patient a left-turn onto Steeles is possible. I've made them before from Home Hardware onto Steeles coming east.

Because coming out of the plaza people drive on the wrong side (drives South on the North lanes) for a while before getting onto the other side of the lanes ... which poses danger for people driving properly going North.

This is the same scenario why they put a median on JSP close to Steeles Av and restricted people from going into Walmart from JSP entrance.

This Walmart from JSP left turn was denied do to so many stupid drives who would get broadsided. Screwed it for the rest of us. :evil:

are you aware that when you make a left turn you drive head on to traffic for a few seconds every day.

That is an expected one ... however, people coming out of the plaza are not expected. Taking your logic, we can drive wrong way and it would be ok as we do it while making a left turn every day. Correct?

No, a normal left is 90% and puts in the proper lane & direction. In this spot your 90% puts you on the wrong side of the road for about 3 car lengths before you can move to the proper lane.

why isn't it expected? I expect it like people coming from an intersection with no lights or stop signs. when you're driving, sometimes a car is merging to your lane after coming from another street. like the la rose parking lot for example.
