My wife and I just bought a new place that is an older home and we want to take a wall out that is load bearing to open it up. I have no idea who to use and was wondering if anyone else had similar work done and could recommend someone?

My brother and I do many different contracting jobs. Our last job involved removing a load-bearing wall, which we had to involve the city (permits). If you would like us to come take a look and give you a quote, we can. We are very reasonable, as we do this part time (fire-fighter type schedule). Call me @ 647-287-0469 if interested.

Now this job will definitely require a permit from the town. You may want to stop in at town hall, go to the counter on the second floor and ask for advice. They don't bite and in fact will be very helpful.

 Run don't walk from any contractor that tells you that a permit is not needed or required. The cost of the permit is marginal, it will protect you from shortcuts and shoddy workmanship that is very common these days AND having a permit will NOT increase the municipal taxes on your home.

Good luck and enjoy your new open concept. :)
