Anyone know how Oakville convinced Metrolinx to install the new multi-level parking structure? Or how Burlington got one recently? I doubt it was sitting around a table saying 'Those Metrolinx guys won't listen anyway'. Indira is new to provincial politics and doesn't have a hope in hell of getting anything done for Milton. Since this area has historically been a Conservative riding I suspect we won't see anything from the Libs until closer to the next election unfortunately, including acceleration of a MUCH needed parking structure.
To be fair to Indira, Ted Chudleigh was in his seat for a long time and didn't do anything in the latter part of his term about Metrolinx and the increasing issues with GO Transit. I think it's simply a matter of Metrolinx not prioritizing Milton and seeing that the lack of parking is not a concern, or that adding trains or creating all-day service is a necessity.
I have been taking the GO Train daily since I moved to Milton four years ago. Over the last year alone I've had to park further and further away from the station, and I get to the station every morning between 6:30-6:50 a.m. If I ever took a train later than the 7:03 a.m. I'm sure there would be no spots left, which is clearly why an increasing number of people are creating their own spots parking at the end of each row.
With some regularity I drive to Lisgar station as my parents live close to there. I leave my home at roughly the same time and even with the traffic into Mississauga at that time, I can always get a spot at Lisgar station that is just a dozen or so steps from the train station. Lisgar Station is also much easier to get out of at the end of the day. Trying to get out of the Milton GO Station parking lot is a nightmare. I think any Metrolinx employee who actually had to take the GO Train from Milton on a regular basis would find the entire situation a nightmare, and I'm sure they would be more willing to do something about it rather than continuing to brush us off.
