Also, it is better for the environment if a hybrid car circles the parking lot for a free spot than a SUV/minivan.

People who say they want to park at the front of stores sound fat.

Or they have twins ...

I never parked in those family spots with my daughter, but twin boys are another thing entirely.

Great points all around! Besides, if anyone challenged me on my Civic Si parking in a hybrid spot, I'd just say it is a hybrid. WTF do 90% of the people know about cars? My car does have a regenerating battery in it after all ...

Why do Civic Si owners have to always say the Si part when they talk about their Civic? Why not just say Civic?

I had an 09 FA5...I miss it.
I'm probably guilty of it too.

in any event, i believe superstore or their agent could certainly keep track of which cars are commuters, or which cars are there a certain number of hours, and have halton police ticket and tow.

Halton police will not ticket or tow. It's private property, even the regional ticketing "officers" can't ticket on private property.

so then who do you think would arrange the tow off private property? superstore would just arrange a tow privately with no police involvement?

Yes, any property owner can call a tow truck to tow away a car parked in his/her property (commercial or residential). For commercial properties they are required to post a no parking / tow away sign with contact information for either towing operator or impound lot.

They would call the property management company for the plaza, who would contact either 3rd party parking enforcement and/or a tow company directly.

Earlier comments referred to some media stories about parking on private property and getting a ticket. These stories related to Toronto. The City of Toronto does not allow this, but what about the Town of Milton? Do they have a bylaw that states that you can not get a parking ticket on private property?

This is my understanding of the Milton By-Law:

1) Can't park your vehicle on any private property w/o permission from the owner, or under the conditions of a sign posted in the parking lot

2) The police, by-law enforcement officer, or appointed officer may tag and/or tow the vehicle.

3) Both the owner of the vehicle and/or the driver of the vehicle have to pay (unless the owner didn't give the driver permission) of either the tag and/or tow.

4) Enforcement officer needs to provide the city with a copy of the ticket or the tow details

That's it. That's why they have the sign there in the parking lot. That's why ticket man is the appointed officer.

we park there all the time, go into the parking lot from the other side, not the obvious side near the GO entrance. Its worth the long walk to park there and not get hassled.

I park in the Hybrid spot and walk over to GO. Those spots would be empty all day anyways.

Every morning I see that parking lot and the one thing that comes into my mind, well the one thing I can mention here anyways, for now... What a waste of space!!!!! At some point, I think we are their customers, too. Now, because of the parking issue at the GO station, I just find it upsetting each time I shop there.

^^ But you can credit them for fore-sighted Monopoly-board genius. I'm sure THEY anticipated demand, and they knew what they were doing buying that capacity. Would they ever sell to GO, or would they ever get into operating a paid lot or garage?

Funny, no other grocery chain / realty holding Co. has this sort of "problem", look at how compact Longo's parking lot is, for example.

Because there is a remarkable difference between the base Civics and an Si (or the SiR for the earlier generations). It's not just an S badge with some aero kit on it like a corolla.

FA5 is a sweet ride, but I still prefer my FG2 (for the record, referring to them by their chassis code is more suspect than tacking on the Si at the end). I just wish it wasn't wrong wheel drive and had a RSX-like hatch instead of a tiny trunk opening.

You can get parking tickets on private parking and it does work the same way as any other ticket. You can be denied plate renewal etc. The way it works is that the private company/service needs to be licensed and certified by the municipality. Once they are, they can issue standard municipal parking tickets - the same ones the parking enforcement officers issue. You must pay or you will be denied plate/sticker renewal. You can tell if the ticket says to pay some company directly (basically worthless private ticket) versus if the ticket tells you to pay it through the municipality.

I should know. I once lived at an apartment building and used to get tickets for parking in visitor parking. When I went to renew my sticker they wanted $400.00 and had a list of all those tickets issued on the private parking property.

Here is a followup:

Let me get this straight: those unable to find a parking spot at the GO station somehow feel entitled to park at Loblaw's? As if Loblaws has an obligation to provide GO parking spots? NOT.

Why don't you direct your anger and frustration at the two parties that matter: Metrolinx and Town Council. Flood Metrolinx with phone calls, organize a protest, have public information sessions, etc. Of course you are going to say that this will not result in Metrolinx action, but who knows, keep up the pressure and you never know what might happen.

And what was Town Council done for you, either past, present or future? Where is the motion passed by council unanimously demanding action by Metrolinx? Threatening action like NOT completing road access to the Velodrome, or withholding permits to occupy the Velodrome, or blockading it for the duration of the Pan Am games? Call it guerrilla politics, but I bet you would get some results. And where is the leadership from our mayor in all this! His "proven leadership"? His many contacts gained over the life of his mayoralty? He needs to be front and center, but seems to be missing in action.

If you want something bad enough, you must be willing to fight for it, rather than just complain to a dead horse. But don't blame Loblaw's.
