I beleive this will be a question for Colin as I assume Britannia Rd is a regional one?

As the Boyne survey area gets ready to kick in, and move in some 50 000 residents to the area, are there any talks for proactive plans for Birtannia Rd?

As I'm sure you've noticed, one of the largest complaints Milton residents have about growth here is "building homes first, and infrastructure later".

Have there been talks about expanding Britannia to 2 lanes in each direction? This would be a great chance for us to learn from past mistakes, and build that road up now before all heck breaks loose on it. Most morning commutes have Britannia near capacity already as it is.

If this has already been covered, please excuse this post - searching for "boyne" yields a lot of results.

So what are your thoughts on that?

It's great that the other roads will be built up, but let's face it, Britannia is going to be the main road out of town for these new residents. If talk for putting money aside for it does not come till after homes are being constructed, aren't we doomed for Derry Rd all over again?

My thoughts are see if we can convince the region to expand the road earlier. Not wait for the boyne population to move in and cause traffic headaches.

See if developers can be enticed to assist with the road expansion using perhaps interest free loans or the like as they've done in the past with other roads near land they want to develop/sell houses on.

I'm with you! As far as I'm concerned, planting those ideas can't start soon enough.

Those other 2 lane roads won't mean much if Britannia is gridlocked from Trafalgar back to Thompson.

p.s Bring back opinionated Zeeshan!! I like that guy. Not fact posting Zeeshan. Even if this is a regional project, give me your thoughts on it!

Hi Martin Prince

Thanks for the question and concern.

Yes, Britannia road is a regional road and is slated for widening to 4 lanes from Highway #407 to Tremaine Road starting in 2013 and completion in 2015 a year before the first phase of the Boyne survey is projected to start.(see attached 2010 capital report and map)

http://www.halton.ca/common/pages/UserF ... leId=33598

http://www.halton.ca/cms/one.aspx?porta ... geId=32437

The other regional roads in the area are at the current stages.

Derry road - 5th Line to Highway #407 bridges paved this week and should be re-opened in the next few weeks along with the new section from Trafalgar Road to 8th Line while the south side section is reconstructed.

James Snow Parkway- Louis St. Laurent to Britannia road, bridge work complete grading and paving to be done in next few weeks with new traffic lights to be operational by the end of June.

Derry road - Tremaine Road to Bronte street, grading work being done for the underpass detour and curb work starting west of Savoline including traffic light system. Paving and opening later this summer.

Highway #25- Derry road to Britannia road, land aquisitions being completed, construction to start later this summer for a four lane artery including traffic lights at Louis St. Laurent Blvd. east which should be open later this summer.

Steeles Ave.- James Snow Parkway to Winston Churchill Blvd. design work being completed and ready for widening to 4 lanes with construction through 2011 and 2012.

Borh this local and regional council have been acclerating plans for these and other transportation projects such as advancing the Derry road underpass from 2016 to 2012 and the Tremaine Road interchange from 2021 to 2013 and the local Louis St. Laurent Blvd. extention from Yates to Tremaine road to meet the growing traffic demand in the Milton area.

I would encourage you and other readers to attend the Regional Transportation meetings to be held later this year to make your concerns known to regional staff and councillors.

As part of the Development Charges Act 1997 municipalities have to budget 10 years into the future for needed capital projects to be able to collect the funds from development charges for the affected areas.

This is something the Province does not do for their responsiblities ie. hospitals, schools, universities and highways all of which are needed in the Milton area.

Local & regional councillor

Wards 2,3,4,5. North of Derry road.

We cannot expand roads *before* people move in. In order to do this you'll need to either force existing taxpayers to pay (can't do it) or borrow (but then if growth doesn't come, you're stuck with expensive debt for infrastructure that no one uses).
I think Colin is actually saying we will do that though.

i.e. the 'before' word in the below.

If it plays out that way, that would indeed be good news.

Thanks Rick

Appreciate the response as it is becoming evident on this and other discussion forums and at the council and committee meetings which candidates and councillors are doing the work in answering residents questions, being informed and involved and getting issues resolved.

Further questions and concerns regarding the Boyne Survey, Derry Green secondary plan and regional and local roads south of Derry road should also go to the regional candidates running south of Derry in the new Wards 1,6,7,8 and the current incumbant for Wards 1 & 3 which includes all the area south of Derry road. If they do not respond on this forum you might want to try there contact information at www.milton.ca under election 2010 candidate list.
