I have just purchased 2 garage door openers at $289 each (belt) due to Sears' $140 off till Sunday with 3/4 Hp. I may be tempted to return them if someone has installed these garage door openers and are satisfied with them.

When are you planning of ordering them?

I don't know anyone personally, but like I said, check the reviews of the Sears GDO's on both Homedepot.ca Homedepot.com (alot more reviews). I read one review where the opener battery acid leaked onto a car roof. A lot of transmitter issues as well. But if you purchased the model with the battery back up, which from the sounds of it you have, the batteries cost $80 each. I'd hate to have to shell that out every year or so so I can get my opener to work. Also watch the videos on the website. If Homedepot in the states is willing to carry the brand, I'm sure the company is pretty reputable.

Are you serious? What kind of operation are they running over there?
That's totally unacceptable!

The funny thing is...our site is a 44 home site. The HVP site behind the hospital is a 200+ home site?

No set date, but were aiming for middle of November. I believe the first set of houses on Coombs are closing middle of October, most in November.

If you targeting middle of November, let me know, I am sure they are large, so I will pick them up and store them where I am living now.
(I am moving end of Jan, I will have to wait until then)

Also, installation? do they do that? if not, who could I call to get this done?

Hey everyone,

Just spoke with Joe Reis (site supervisor) and he said that on a look out lot, there are usually 2 lookout basement windows at the back of the house. Of these 2, only 1 will be operational. (this example pertains to the Green Brier B model which has 2 lookout windows, if your model has more, the same rule applies - only 1 will be operational)
Any windows in the basement on the sides of the home, will be your basic window that you can open and close by sliding.

I hope this helps!

Sunny&Geeta. That sounds right from what we have been told by the builder. The issue was that when choosing our upgrades and which windows to make operational, it was important for us to have all of our basement windows operational. But our design consultant assured us that they were already all operational.
Since following up about it, our design consultant said that it was different when we made the upgrades and they have since changed the window styles, etc., therefore not all come operational. We reminded them about the information we were given and our DC admitted she told us that so the decision was made and they told us that our windows would all be operational in the basement. But as of last night, some are not.

As for the openers, #1, we have had a crazy week (still trying to sell our house!!!) so I have not really seen Oliver let alone been able to ask him about it.....I'll try to get an answer this weekend.

Also, can you send me a quick email about the garage door openers, #1 and then I'll forward it to the whole Coombs crew via email. It might be easier to keep track for you over email as well instead of just here.

Some good news on our home. Rear garden door is fixed, tiles have been ripped out and I assume they will install the proper tiles. My confidence in Mattamy has been somewhat restored.

Great about the door and that they are heading in the right direction for your tiles, #1!
Customer Service has stopped responding to my emails and the builder supervisor never returned a call from Monday.

Well, Oliver says we'll take 2 garage door openers. The website says that the 550 is equivalent to 3/4 HP but when you click on the product catologue link from the website, it says the 550 is the equivalent of 1/2 HP.....any thoughts on the discrepancy? We only need a 1/2 HP anyway for each door but I just wonder why the info isn't consistent.

I'm not sure as well, because I checked the USA web site and it says the same thing. I might call the USA site to get an answer. The guy in Canada seems to think that the 550 is 1/2hp, but everywhere I read it says its 3/4hp. The guy in Canada said that the 550 is good for a door size up to 16 x 7. I think our door sizes are 7x7 or 8x7? The single door sizes are probably 16 x 7, but I'm not 100% sure...

Okay I checked the product catelogue and seen the same thing. I would tend to believe the product catelogue over the website, but the guy in Canada told me that the 550 were rated at 1/2hp, and the 800 were 3/4hp. I think for all the double door buyers, the 550 is more than fine, I would say to the single door buyers move up to the 800. Again, until I get a final number I can't ask for his best discount. Here are the numbers so far:

Send me the quanties:

- myself - 2 openers
- Marquis - 1
- Dilex - 2
- Keri_rich - 1
- Amabelle - 2
- sunny&geeta - 2

- samreen - 1
- johnny's sister - 2
- sal&christine - 2
- Mark (buddy of mine) - 2
- The Tickle Trunk - 1

27 units so far...

It would be nice to hit 30 as it will be more than double what our initial conversation was so we'll have to give us a bigger discount.

Also, single door people, I'm not sure what the weight of your doors are, but the 800 can handle 1200lbs and the 550 550lbs. So you might be able to pass with the 550, but for the peace of mind I would go to the 800.

Amabelle, that really sucks! Can you try going back to them? If you're getting front loaders, that will be a pain to have the doors open backwards...I don't know your model, but hopefully it won't be too much trouble if Mattamy doesn't budge

Okay guys, I spoke to my contact. Thats the best discount I can get right now. He says if our order goes above 50 he'd be able to do something. Single door people please let me know if you want the 550 or 800 Synoris. I'm assuming all the double door people will stay with the Synoris 550. I will start collecting money at the beginning of Novemeber.

He said he would be able to give a 15% discount on the keypads as his margin is very small on the accessories. Single door people please let me know if you want the 550 or 800 Synoris. I'm assuming all the double door people will stay with the Synoris 550. I will start collecting money at the beginning of Novemeber.

not bad, how much are the keypads? It says $55 on the US website. I may be confused as to what you may be referring to but if it is the numbered keypad, then 1 is perhaps what we will need. Yes as we have double doors, we will stick with the Synoris 550.

Also, the installation, is that an option we can get through your contact?

Regards,

Sunny&Geeta
