My re-sale Mattamy home has the std issue tub in the master bathroom en suite. I have been thinking it would be nice to have a tiled, walkin shower instead, with glass wall/door, instead of the tub.

Anyone done an after the fact conversion?

It seems pretty straight forward, but I would appreciate any comments on cost, moving the drain, other potential issues/suggestions. I realize a big portion of the cost would depend on the tile you pick and how expensive glass wall/doors are.

Further, I just noticed that the new block of released mattamy homes shows this as an upgrade, to the tune of about $1700. But in the floor plan below, you can see there is an opening in a real wall... not a glass wall/door.

cheers,
AJ

If your looking for a cost savings you can order a bottom like in the photo below. This can be ordered from home depot then simply tile the shower. I am sure home depot handyman can give you an estimate on this. Looks like you won't have to move the drain pipe with this bottom. This will save you some cash.

If you are doing this cause you are getting old or need help in and out of the tub You may want to look at http://www.bathway.ca
Looks like they just cut your existing tub and add some sort of edging. Most likely the cheapest, fastest, and less messy route.

If you are looking for a really nice looking shower, with fancy wall tiles led floor, bench.... it will cost you about $4000 -$6000 after everything has been taken out and replaced. And it will be a messy job

Costco is now selling a shower unit that fits in place of the bath tub. They are selling it for $599 it includes the floor with drain in same place of tub drain and nice frame less shower doors. Not sure if you have completed your project, but thought I'd let you know
