Ouch. Although this happens all the time in Toronto, I have not seen it in the suburbs yet. I guess this is just the beginning.

It had better NOT be just the beginning. If I see anything like this happening in this place, I'LL be the "guy with the sign", picketing town hall.

6,600 sq/ft... this is scary:

Quote:
Councillor Paul Palleschi agreed with other councillors who said this sort of thing is becoming more common in Brampton.

What I notice is it looks like there is no driveway anymore (they basically built the house over the entire span of the lot, front yard, backyard etc). Will they park on the road? All 3 families plus extended in laws and parents?

I think custom building whatever home you want on a large parcel of land is fine.. but in a subdivision.. there should be sq/ft limits so that the largest you can build is equivalent to the largest house in that subdivision for that lot size.

I'm not surprise, it's Brampton. Multi family housing is common there and that's why their property taxes is so high. 6600sqft house on a street of 1400sqft-2000sqft houses, that is stupid.

I think there are laws, building codes, and fire codes that describe structure size:lot size ratios, depending on original zoning.

This is "slippery slope" type stuff. I hope our governments at all levels grow a pair and stop making concessions to people like this. I hope it all winds up flattened, what a waste of materials.

If they truly did approve it, then too bad neighbors, to be honest... If he did everything by the book, then he can't be faulted for it.

Now - both sides are claiming the opposite, so it will be interesting to see what the truth is.

From the builder's perspective, it is stupid to build there. The value of the home will not keep as the area will be much lower... I think he's just shooting himself in the foot...

Correct, there likely are, at a minimum, Land-to-buiding ratios (what percentage of the lot can be taken up by the structure), and setback requirements (how far back from the lot line must the building be, on all sides)

I recall some of you saying "I can do whatever I want on my property, because it's mine"... hopefully this changes your mind a little bit :)

WTF?? That's unbelievable. It takes a special kind of asshat to do that to your neighbours .... he's essentially shaving off tens of thousands of dollars in equity from every single homeowner on the street. What a self-centered goof. That monstrosity needs to be leveled.

Their neighbors likely just experienced a 10% deline overnight. :)

Probably 30% by the time that monstrosity is completed and the 22 people living there start coming and going in their 12 cars.

In the olden days, something like this would have been turned into a community bonfire with marshmallow roasting.

Yeah I've seen this thing.. close to the corner of Kennedy and Rutherford (Centre), just west.
On Google Street View, you can already see the pile of rubble when it was knocked down!

I heard the upper level is just wall to wall mattresses. 3000 sqft of them. Still not enough.

If you go to Google Street View the address of the home is 443 Centre St. N. at the corner of Hinchley Wood Grove. It shows the old bungalow that was there which looked like a decent size with double garage. Supposedly he is planning to build underground parking for the new home. I'd like to know how the building inspectors who would be out inspecting allowed it to get this far.
