Close, weeks actually. (By choice) At least the only stick I grab is my own.
Anyone up this late looking for a fight is obviously lonely.
And you won't pick up chicks by acerting your masculinity on a forum.
My best guess is you drive a yellow Prius with a "big daddy" decal on the windshield.
Nice try kakamata, go get some shut eye!

Yeah but you can also park in those spots at the SuperStore too. I love parking there in my gas-guzzling sportscar. Sometimes I even let it idle.

Superstore has a loose screw this these "special" parking spots for hybrid cars, and rightly so, everyone ignores the signs and parks in them.

Why Superstore "values" hybrid car drivers over other customers is beyond me.

It's discrimination ha ha ha!

Like I said, very relutantly. There are other factors in my decision, like being able to use the HOV lanes and shaving 20 minutes of communte time everyday. I don't pay for gas right now as a job perk but I've heard rumblings that they are going to start cutting back on that and capping so again that plays a role in my decision.

I think you can only use the HOV (driving alone) if you have electric car. The hybrid does not qualify as "Green" - but there was a previous discussion on this forum about the topic - I think.

Mazda's new skyactiv tech is pretty nice too.
The engineers there did away with some moving parts and increased compression ratios to 14:0:1( the highest of any production class)
They always knew that efficiency and power went hand in hand. I believe the new mazda6 will have a diesel option coming soon. What's better than driving past the pumps?
Driving past the pumps grabbing your crotch and flipping the bird.
It's allowed, neither is a hand held device!
Correction, only one isn't!

+1 for Mazda skyactiv. We were looking at the Lexus hatchback hybrid but then ended up buying a Mazda 3 hatchback with skyactiv and the car has an awesome fuel efficiency without compromising on pick-up. Sometimes we have to just power into the fast-moving HOV lane from the slow left lane and you really need pick up to match the speed but this thing just flies! Loving it. We also love the Volkwagen TDI 2.0 and considering replacing our leased VW Jetta Wagon Highline 2.5 gasoline one to the 2.0 TDI.

Los Arango,

What did you finally decide? Hybrid or Diesel? I'm in the same position this year trying to sort out a pair of wheels that won't make me wince every time I pull into a gas station. I don't do allot of highway driving, around 20,000 km or less per year. I'm hoping to find something used, reliable, that will give me a break at the gas pumps. Thanks for any advice.

Hey Binou,
I looked at the hybrids and the one I narrowed down to was the Sonata. The 2 main problems were that there was very little trunk space and the battery warranty sucked. I then lookd at the Jetta diesel which I really liked excpet it was to plain Jane and once I put on the features I wanted, it was no worth it to save the gas. Then I started looking at 4 cylinders turbos and it came down to Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima. Both awesome cars and good mileage. In the end, I decided to keep my car that was paid off, still in great shape and a fantastic vehicle.

Thanks Los Arango. Great summary on the key points. I was really interested in diesel but the purchase price & insurance was more off putting than gas prices. I really like your idea of the Hyundai Sonata & Kia Optima 4 cyl turbos. The Kia dealership in Milton has great reviews on the web & in particular salesperson Juan Carlos Vega. Very personable & straight talking. But what really got my attention was West End Hyundai in Etobicoke. 0% down & 0% financing for 7 years. I'm going to check out Hyundai first, do my research & test drive. Then I told JC Vega that I would bring him the facts & figures to see if he can top it. Doesn't look good, he said he can't match the financing but the Kia dealership is throwing in a cruise to the Bahamas. I just want the best car deal.

I hear you about keeping the vehicle you have. Something very reassuring about a debt free vehicle that still works great. Unfortunately, my Honda is aging as we speak & the mileage is very high. I bought it in the USA at a good price but the dashboard is American (miles) & the running lights still have to be installed (not required in the USA). Let's not even talk about the fairly serious accident it went through (no, I wasn't driving). So Hyundai & Kia here I come. See ya later gas pumps. Well, maybe not too much later, but still later.

Thanks very much for your great advice & starting this thread.

No problem and good luck. Yes, forgot to mention the 0% financing which was huge as opposed to the Volkswagen. Throw in a 5 yr, 100 km bumper to bumper warranty and you're golden. You'll love both the Optima and Sonata, when I'm ready those 2 will be at the top of my list.

Your better off with a Toyota corolla or a Honda civic. But if you need a mid size and your mind is made up on a hybrid then for your own sake buy a Toyota Camry best mid size bar none. From a guy who has sold cars for 33 years. Gas powered or hybrid you can't go wrong.

GENEVA–Ferrari Tuesday showed off its latest offering for the super rich: the first model from the Italian luxury sports brand equipped with hybrid technology gleaned from its experience in Formula 1 racing.

Presenting the model–baptized La Ferrari–at the Geneva Motor Show, Chairman Luca Cordero de Montezemolo said it would set the standard for future models because it had raised the bar on performance and technological prowess. “It is an advanced laboratory for the Ferraris of tomorrow,” he told a news conference.

But this performance comes at a price–anyone wanting one of the La Ferraris will have to pay 1 million euros ($1.30 million) plus tax to get hold of one.

It is the first time in more than 10 years that a Ferrari model has benefited from technology that was first experimented on the race track. The last time was in 2002 with the Enzo for its aerodynamics design of the body.

Like the Enzo, La Ferrari will be a limited edition car–only 499 units will be made through the end of 2014.

Ferrari, 90% owned by Italian carmaker Fiat SpA (F.MI), had received more than 700 requests to buy it, said Mr. Cordero de Montezemolo, and he emphasized Ferrari’s diligence in selecting those who will be able to own it. “We want to avoid speculators,” he said. “We want real collections of Ferrari.”

La Ferrari is fitted with a patented HY-KERS hybrid technology and a chassis made of carbon fiber designed by its Formula 1 team.

This HY-KERS technology consists of two electric motors adjacent to the 12-cylinder internal combustion engine. The motors give more power without consuming more fuel or emitting more fumes. This is an important factor in light of the growing government pressure on car manufacturers to reduce CO2 emissions. Super sports cars are notorious polluters.

La Ferrari emits 330 grams of CO2 per kilometer, about 30 grams less than the company’s F12 model, Roberto Fedeli, chief technology officer, said. Although it is a technology that Ferrari aims to fit in future models, it won’t happen immediately, said Mr. Fedeli. “The technology is still young,” he said. “It isn’t mature.”

La Ferrari can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers an hour in less than three seconds and to 300 kilometers in less than 15 seconds.

You must be an import salesman as you just named off 3 of that most bland cars on the road.

I'm not endorsing the malibu...but this commercial sums it all up
