I'm starting to think the people who comes up with stupid statement like "People who price match are losers" are really clueless when it comes to shopping and are not wise with their money. Why do you think majority of the big retailers are so big on "Price Match", it's all a game to get the customers to do all their shopping in one store. It's also environmental friendly if you think about it, less driving around and burning up the gas to shop at mulitple stores.

Nothing wrong with wanting to save money, just be considerate about it. Come prepared and and organized with all your flyers and coupons bookmarked or in order. It is frustrating when you have some frazzled person sifting through a stack of flyers to find the right page for every single item on the belt. That is annoying as hell. I do like the idea of a lane dedicated to this, although I'm sure it would receive the same level of abidance as the express 1-# items lane.

Full disclosure however: I don't think I've ever price matched small grocery store items in my life, only bigger ticket one off items at Best Buy or a store like that—usually to avoid driving outside the Milton.

Exactly. Save money on your own time. How about I drive up behind your car and park when you're trying to get out. So I can save money on gas as I wait for my husband. So many people missing the point here.

Spending an extra 3 mins in line behind a price matcher is alot less aggravating than waiting for an idiot to finish gassing up his/her car and then shuffling inside to pay but leaving their car at the gas pump.

Really? it is my own time.
What is the point here? You are choosing to shop at stores that have the price matching policy in place. You need to deal with it. If you hate it that much, shop somewhere else.
This isnt rocket science here.

If your in that much of a rush, that the extra couple of minutes is going to kill you, maybe you should do your grocery shopping when you're not so busy?
Do you get upset if the person in front of you has a huge pile of groceries in their cart? That will also eat up your time.

I dont think you should be entering a grocery store expecting it to be a quick in and out trip. People do their shopping for a week, two weeks worth of food. Its a busy place, deal with it, or maybe look at alternatives. Someone mentioned grocery gateway.

How do you know that the person in front of you, wasting your valuable time, doesn't have a legitimate disability that's preventing them from executing their grocery shopping to your satisfaction?

If everyone else is expected to be so considerate to you, how about you consider that they may be doing their best to be independent and this is as good as it's going to get?

Imagine your mother or father suffering a stroke or in the early stages of Alzheimer's and showing up to a grocery store with a fist full of flyers with no idea which, if any, item in there even matches what they're buying... would you want someone standing behind them, berating and belittling them, and shaming them to the point where they don't want to go outside anymore?

How about if you don't have the time to be a human being that day, you arrange to do your shopping at another time or have your groceries delivered to you?

Having twins = PRICE MATCH ALL THE THINGS!

When you can save 2 bucks on a tin of formula, you better believe I'm going to price match that sh*t to the max.

HI Newintown,
Hope all is well. Been a while.....
The reason for leaving your car at the pump when you go inside to pay is what you should be doing.
If you remove your vehicle and another car pulls up to fill up gas and leaves before you get to pay for your gas, you can be on the hook for their gas too.

My thoughts on price matching may change, we have twins on the way! We are fortunate to have a friend at Nestle to help with formula costs but we are already going down the everything x 2 path in preparation. AHHHHH!

Where did you hear this? It's never ever happened to me and I always move my car once I'm done at the pump.

Metro, Food Basics, No Frills, Super Store and Walmart all put out flyers each week. There is usually a good buy or 2 from each one. We shop Superstore as it is closest and save the time and gas instead of going to all 5 stores. The whole idea is to offer sale items to lure you into any given store hoping you will do your complete weekly shop there. It is easier to match the competitors sale price at the cashier than changing the bar-code price for the week and then changing it back, they would not have a lot of notice to do this. By price matching the store can get you in the door and hope you do a big shop with no marketing cost to them.

Walmart (since you mention them) is entirely electronic
It is as simple as editing a line in a database to do a price change

Everyone from team lead to manager to head office can do in about a minute
You can also set an expiry time/date if you only want to price match for the week / day / month etc

As I said it certainly is easier to do from that side than wasting time on cashier side (esp since to say reduce a bunch of bananas that $0.10 20 times in a day costs more from your hourly employees)

Call Best Buy and ask them why they do when they're the same company? (I know the answer, I'm just too lazy to explain it  )

What? I'd rather have you explain what this sentence even means... ?
