Another new installation in another new house.

Customer had the builder do a bunch of runs around the house and hired me to put in all the jacks, faceplates and patch panel. I also tested everything end to end and made it make sense.

Want to future proof your house? Let's do it.

I have updated the http://www.phonejacks.ca/networked.html page with some more pictures and information about things you can do to future-proof your house. Something you should really consider, if not for yourself, but maybe for the next home buyer who will be looking for features like this.

This guy sounds good, but there is a catch, I worked for Bell Canada for 8 years and now presently work for Cogeco Cable and can tell you all that the equiptment he uses is NOT up to Company Standards. Anything other then Bell / Cogeco equiptment being used will cost you in the long run. Customer owned equiptment like this stuff is usually made cheap and will go defective with in a few years , once that happens then your on the hook for service charges from Mama Bell and your local cable company. Hooking up coax cable for TV needs approved cogeco equiptment in order to function properly, the units being used here will deplete your signal significantly.

Just a little for warning to anyone interested, check with your local subscriber.

I disagree .. I had Cogeco come over 3 times, because I had some trouble with my cable. One of them also installed a non-standard splitter (he said it wasn't a normal one but just a spare one he had in his truck) so it probably wasn't an "approved" piece of equipment either.
Also The problem ended up being that the first cogeco installer didn't properly ground the cable or something (the third cogeco guy tried to explain it tome) which was causing interferance on my TV. Anyways, Cogeco solved the problem to my satisfaction 100%... but they did originally make the mistakes in their equipment/installation that caused the problem in the first place.

Greg's (Buildinghome.ca) has come to my house a couple times to do work. Each time it was very high quality (I realize though I'm a layman/not an expert, but that's still my opinion), he explained in details everything he was doing, he took the time to answer my questions. I would definitely recommend him to others, and I'm not one to usually post personal recommendations.

Cogeco doesn't have a monopoly on 'good equipment' Just because the cable wasn't provided by Cogeco doesn't mean it won't be as good a quality.

Dude, I have no idea what you are referring to.. Perhaps you have me mixed up with someone else.

When talking about 'Cogeco' equipment, you mean the stuff that Allentron halfhazzardly sticks into peoples houses?

What do they use for splitters? Antronix.
What do I use for splitters? Antronix.

What do they use for termination? TnB SNS.
What do I use for termination? TnB SNS.

What do they use for cabling? RG6.
What do I use for cabling? RG6.

I even use ACI and Antronix drop amps.. same as them!

Where do we all get them from? THE SAME PLACE.

The only thing left in that loop is the F81 wallplates.. Of which are available from any major wholesaler in bulk.

I don't touch anything of Cogecos installation except when they have neglected to ground the incoming line, not screw the splitter to the panel, screw up the telephone jacks for their home phone install, or generally leave the panel in a mess making it impossible to add anything else to the loop, etc..

In the hundreds of installations I have done for telecomm, networking, GDOs, cabling, and various other things, I could probably count the service calls on one hand, and most of those were for customer education.

I have no interest installing something into someones house that will result in a service call. I take the time to do a quality job that I can be proud of.

If you would like to discuss the details of my installations further, please feel free to contact me directly with your concerns and maybe we can straighten this out.

I can see I started something that was not intended to hurt anyone. I didnt mean any disrespect to ANY private contractor but from the pictures I seen the equipment is non approved material. If any cogeco tech / bell tech went into someones home with this stuff , most likely the tech would replace it which leads to wasted money for the customer. I know for a fact that tech's DO NOT replace things just to make money, if any inspector went out and found cables hooked up to non approved material that would be classified as a fail on the techs behalf.

This post was just to make customers aware of the policies that some companies have , and to do research before they invest hard earned money into something that may render itself useless in the long run.

To the contractor that I may have offended , I'm sinecerly sorry, I'm sure your craftsmanship is top notch, heck maybe in the future if you need a hand running lines you can give me a ring, installs have slooooowed way down @ this moment and any extra work would be great.

8 years Telco + 2 years Cable = experinence.

Steve

And here is where your argument falls appart.

Bell is responsble for everything up to the grey demarcation point at the side of the house. Everything after that is the homeowners responsibility.

When you call up Bell to activate your line they state that if there is a problem inside the house with any non-Bell equipment that they have to fix that Bell will charge for a service call.

The very last thing I tell every customer before I leave is, "If you have any problems with anything I have installed, contact me and I will be more than happy to help you out."

As for my non-standard equipment for Bell, sure.. I'll agree that my Rj45 surface mount jack and my inhouse line bus is not the same what Bell would install for $80. In fact, I'd go as far as saying that it's better as each house line is screwed down on its own pair of terminals instead of mashed together all on one (like Bell does)

I make sure people are aware of their service providers policies. Many people have asked me to do up their cable jacks. It would be an easy few bucks for me, but why would I charge the customer for it when they can get it done for free by Cogeco? I tell them if they want more beyond that give me a call.

My name is Greg. Many many people on here and other places know me as BuildingHomes.

10 years independant contractor = also experienced
Fully insured.

As for help running lines.. Heh, maybe.
