The absolute worst kept secret in Halton is now official.
As many have been saying for weeks, HDSB is woefully unprepared to attempt to open schools.
In addition HDSB had a laughable "plan" compared to surrounding school boards because their trustees were confused about what constitutes basic safety.
As mentioned in other threads I had personally visited a few schools in past weeks and knew this was coming.

So now a last minute bomb on parents who are supposed to be working and have no alternate arrangements to look after their kids.
Great job HDSB and the Union. Just what we expected!

Sept *14th* is now the new start date lets see if they can make this one or no

Oh and revised plan now calls for ALL students in every grade to wear a mask. It was funny they kept dodging this issue previously.

Also of note
HDSB INSISTS the money that was set aside previously (the money that Ford allowed them to spend) should NOT be spent as they had budgeted these funds for building new school.
Kids safety be dammed.

New school money is separate and paid directly by the Province. Having you seen our politicians come visit Milton to announce each of the new schools their building (sometimes multiple times for the same school!)

The reserve funds you're referring to are monies set aside for the planned replacement of a roof at an aging school or redoing the asphalt on the playgrounds, etc. It's long term expenses that are budgeted. If this money is spent now, there will be no money to complete capital repairs in the future which only leads to further problems.

I'm not sure which boards had a non-"laughable" plan so please let us know. They all seem to be struggling with these difficult times

If it was a secret, it was a pretty poorly kept secret. Most people I know have been making alternative arrangements for their kids knowing school is unlikely to start until later (like most other boards are doing).

I'm also not surprised if Halton is having about 35% of families elect for online learning. It's family population is likely the wealthiest board in the Province so providing other arrangements for their kids is a privilege many more can afford.

Keep up the vitriol and misinformation Pepe. This place would be completely dead without you.

Hey @gb
I posted multiple times school had NO PLANS and had not even attempted to do what they were supposed to do (eg hire teachers for online learning, add basic safety features for school, discuss details with parents)

You were running your mouth in other thread about how great their plans were and how people such as myself could not read / understand them

Now that you were proven dead wrong its quite funny to see you making claims such as "most people I know have been making alt arrangements" lol
Your post history betrays you

Sorry Hodor, that's my fault. He can't help being a clown and a moron. I'm the one who should know better. A few minutes of boredom and I'm once again replying to his inanity.

Too bad there aren't many grown ups left commenting on here. There used to be some decent discussions.

Please do tell which other school board has their sh*t together?

From what I'm seeing and reading they're all having issues putting a plan together.

As for hiring online teachers, i doubt that they will. I suspect supply teachers will get called up and some teachers repurposed to be online.

I do get a kick and a laugh at your constant bash of everything and anything. there's some truth to what you say though but some things i do shake my head

Heck, York, Peel, Dufferin, Durham
Lots of boards had plans in place weeks before ours and did not need to change their dates multiple times

Halton has now made *5* revisions in less than a month, and even had multiple dates for the return to school surveys
Talk about confused

The mere fact that Halton has basically folded like lawn chairs on nearly every issue does show that majority of parents screamed murder

Even try to send them an email :)
It will bounce back with a canned response since HDSB is no longer even answering after they got bombarded with parents complaints

Meh the extreme left gets really mad when people point out issues
Esp those that are mainly the unions doing

Ford called them out pretty harsh last press conference
Way too self entitled and willing to sacrifice safety at kids expenses

Peel is having their own issues dated Aug 24

https://torontosun.com/news/local-news/ ... ine-school

I suspect a lot of school boards are not fully ready but we're not hearing about them as we're not in their district or there is no media releases about it.

As much as i have a disdain for teacher unions/ teachers and the government, i have can sympathize with them as it's no easy task to put all this together in a short time. Governments fault or school boards fault for it? Probably both but comes from the government first for total lack of direction or giving a direction at such a late time leaving the school boards to rush to make it work.
