SERIOUSLY....Is this a joke?!

Anyone else notice the sign at the entrance of the GO station for their current parking solution.

"Hi. We've had our head in the sand for the past 2 years, please drive 14kms to the station nobody uses to park your car. Sorry for the inconvenience of adding another 20 mins drive to your morning commute. In all the data we collect, somebody failed point out the Milton line has been the fastest growing line for the past 5 years - but currently we have no planned expansion for your service or parking situation. Please don't forget to tap your presto. Thank you for riding GO Transit, and taking it up the a$$"

Yes, that does seem a stupid sign...for a second I thought there was some new parking area close by..but then realized they were actually telling people to drive to the next GO station instead :x

http://www.metrolinx.com/en/regionalpla ... lan_EN.pdf on page 33 does talk about increased Milton GO Station parking being built (600 - 800 more spots) in a structure (i.e. multi-level parking building) sometime between 2014 to 2032. But that date range is so broad. Basically sometime between now and almost 20 years from now

I've called Metrolinx a couple times about this to let them know that there aren't enough parking spots currently, and that they need to pinpoint a better timeline than just saying "2014 to 2032". They took that as feedback but didn't really give an answer.

I also believe that our local MPP (Indira) is also planning to make some inquiries but I'm not sure on when or what the response might be.

There'd be a happy medium if they added a station at Trafalgar Rd- and it would get users from south Georgetown too. I hear the province had that in the plans but it was dropped at some point... not sure why.

I've had a few chats with GO/Metrolinx about the Milton line and the parking situation and both are just exercises of futility.

There official stance is "there is no current expansion plans for the Milton lot". This should go over really well with the planned 6000+ new homes over the next 5-6 years here in Milton.

Why don't GO users carpool to the station?
I think a lot already do. Maybe Rick M can give us the # of parking spaces and rider numbers for a normal morning.

What about a "GO Shuttle" service? That would be a good solution?

Why not let people park somewhere like the old dealership at Derry/25 and just have a couple shuttles going back and forth? Boom!
That makes sense so it will be ignored.

GO used to have a bus that went downtown and would pick folks up but they cancelled it. My aunt used to take it to get to the station to take the bus downtown in the late morning and then back home after she took the bus or train home. Now, she has to take a taxi as there is no room at all in the lot when she arrives. Apparently they told her that the bus couldn't make the turn at the corner onto Millside but it's been doing it for year so don't know how that could be the real reason. I'm assuming it's a cost cutting measure but would be interested in knowing how much money it would cost to swing downtown.

We do/try every chance we get.

There's only so many strongly worded letters you can send on official town logo paper and only so many times you can delete them from your Christmas card list using a solid permanent marker.

I think they have us on auto-ignore with a rote template style non-answer answer.

What about the above ideals. If metrolinx is stern on there stance how about approaching with alternative solutions to address the issue.

Hi Everyone,

I believe this issue is the most important infrastruture issue we face as a community. As I discussed in the Champion's on-line questionaire, and on Cogeco's taped candidate sessions to be aired next week, I promise that if you vote for me this will be my biggest infrastructure priority. As you will see on my website, and all campaign literature from me, I have listed the parking situation at the Milton GO station as the #1 issue that I will address by voting for me.

This issue to me is our biggest challenge because there are 55,000 new residents moving to Milton over the next 6 - 7 years, and currently the GO station's parking lot is full by 7:30am. Most of the new residents coming to Milton work in Toronto, however the province has said this issue may not be resolved for 18 years. By that time Milton's population will have doubled. In 2010, I promised voters that if they voted for me, I would make the widening of Britannia road my biggest priority. I did, and am very happy Britannia will start to be widened this year 8 years ahead of schedule. I will apply the same commitment and determination in resolving this parking issue in the short-term if you vote for me.

Thank You,
Tony
