I've noticed the Loblaws parking lot has been guarded by a parking attendant in a smart car.

is this simply a scarecrow tactic to ward off GO train patrons or are cars really being ticketed and/or towed?

I don't think they can ticket you as it's private property - I THINK...

The smart car is instilling fear though... great tactic..

i think you're right, although there was a series of articles in the star about private companies doing just that, and "ticketing" vehicles even though it was technically illegal.

in any event, i believe superstore or their agent could certainly keep track of which cars are commuters, or which cars are there a certain number of hours, and have halton police ticket and tow.

Wwhile they are at it, they should look at all the people who end up parking in the spots reserved for hybrids. The spots are always full.....just not with hybrid cars.

if the ticket is a private company you don't have to pay for it. I think the only private company parking tickets you might have to pay for are from Impark which are mostly downtown Toronto anyways. If the tickets are from town of Milton then you do have to pay for them. However, they can have our car towed.

There are tons of google articles.
Here's one from the star.

That's because hybrids spots are stupid. The "pregnant and families with small children" spots make some sense, but the hybrid ones are just lame pandering. Now if there were full electric spots with a charging station, then perhaps you'd have a point.

But can/will that private company report you to a collection agency, and trash your credit rating?

I rarely shop at that hell hole. If I ever got a ticket for parking in a hybrid spot, it would certainly be the last time I go there. It’s bad business to ticket your customers, even if they are disobeying your stupid parking signs.

I'm not sure. I doubt it. I got quite a few tickets when I was dating my then gf now wife when she lived downtown. They even sent letters threatening to send it to a collection agency. I was able to buy a house and a few cars since then so it hasn't affected my credit. What they're doing is illegal demanding money. I guess you could reverse it and threaten them.

Yes, they can ticket you and they can report you to a collection agency. They can even tow your car away. What they can not do is stop you from renewing your sticker or license and they can not put a lien on you. They are no different than Metrolinx ticketing you at the GO parking lot.

I do not know how much access they have to MTO to get owner name and address using license plate.

Halton police will not ticket or tow. It's private property, even the regional ticketing "officers" can't ticket on private property.

Equifax doesn't include private parking ticket for credit ratings.

It's up to you. You are doing something what the land owner doesn't want you to do.

Another article regarding private parking tickets.

As you are pulling into a lot spot, he will quickly drive over to your and ask you to move your vehicle. I have heard two different people talk about the service. no idea what happens if you do park?!

electric only spots that actually have an outlet i'll leave alone. but hybrid only is dumb. my golf gets the same or very close to the same fuel economy as a prius and better than those escalade and tahoe hybrids. why do they get special treatment.
