It seems to me that during the week Loblaws has more parking than they really need at the west end of their store. Kudos to them for thinking ahead. If that is the case then maybe GO should try to rent some of the parking area from Loblaws.

I can't believe how many people on here have an issue with Loblaws over this. Seriously. And good luck with Metrolinx (with an 'x'). They don't care. I have a friend who works for them and I can tell you their long-term strategy is to build multi-level parking garages at GO sites (that'll enhance the view of the Escarpment!) and, the best part: they plan to eventually start charging for parking. So, you think the situation is untenable now??

Have fun, commuters - this town is screwed. Whether you drive or take transit, things are not going to get better here for a looooooong time, if ever.

Wow somebody besides me has seen the light. As for "Pay for parking"....I'm very surprised their not doing it now.

I am sure that parking rates are figured into their rate structure. You pay for parking, you just don't see it as a line item.

So on Nov 12th, those bastages at the Milton Go station tagged everyone parked outside the designated parking areas....Fast forward to today, I was going to take my lumps,since I was in the wrong, and pay the penalty. While at the Compliance office in Union to pay the ticket I decided to dispute the ticket. I gave them the story of how the number of cars outnumber the available legal parking spots. He listens and then reduces the fine. But get this...i look over at his screen and he has four different photographs of the infraction. It was kinda cool to see parking enforcement has gone sem-hi tech. Gone are the days when you could 'imply'...I wasn't parked illegally...now they have your car in nice hi resolution shots.

If they didn't ticket people parked illegally there, it would very shortly become a free-for-all with everyone parked wherever they want, and it would be a nightmare to get into or out of. Not to mention emergency vehicles needing to get in there if there was ever a need.

The problem many are facing now is the parking lot is getting full by 730am (Mon thru Thurs). I'm sure soon enough it'll be full by the time the 723 train leaves.

Talk to the people that take public transit to the parking lot. The bus arrives as the train is leaving! A friend of mine moved here from sunny San Diego and was taking the City bus to GO. Recently they cancelled his bus and now he has to ride his bike. In the snow. What a sucker.

Loblaws did not 'BUY THAT CAPACITY". A developer bought the property and sought out users(such as LCBO, Mr. Sub and Superstore). The users generate a required number of parking spots as specified by the local zoning by-law: # of square feet per type of use multiplied by # of spots required per square foot and bingo you have the number of spots required/provided. The Developer most likely fought like hell to reduce the # of required/provided spots because they can charge more for store square feet than for parking spots which supports the bottom line.

Everyone on here that keeps slagging Loblaws may not realize the parking surrounding Superstore is for the benefit of the entire plaza, not just Superstore and would be the same size, whether a GO station was located beside it or not. I work near the Oakville GO station and see tickets daily in the plaza across the street with illegal parkers. They have a new multi-level parking structure that has reduced the # of cars parked illegally but the issue it still exists.

Until Metrolinx ponies up the dough to get a multi-level structure there is no real solution. A lot of effort will be required to find efficiencies in the City transit to feed the GO station properly and effectively but it will be a drop in the bucket because I believe people just won't want to give up taking their car to the lot.

Longo's is wicked expensive and no one shops there so the tiny lot in front of it can handle it

So let me be clear on what you are suggesting to those of us with kid(s) in before and after school programs at different schools (that is many people judging by when I drop my kids off).

Since these programs start at 7AM, I should drive my car to the 2 schools I have to drop my kids off, drive back home so that my round-trip school drop off is no more that 45 minutes, then take the bus at 7:47AM so I can catch the 8:08AM train and be at work before 9:30AM.

Then if my wife's car breaks down on her way home from work to pick up the kids, do the same routine but make sure I leave Toronto so that I am in Milton no later that 4:30pm (ie. leave Toronto no later that 3:30pm), so I can take the bus to my house to get my car, then drive through the evening rush hour to pick up the kids before the after-school programs close and boots them out in the winter weather by 6pm.

Did I get that right?

And I think that will definitely happen if it snows the night before and the plows don't have a chance to get to clear the parking lot before people start arriving for the first train. There was a bit of that happening on Monday with the first snowfall. Because people couldn't see the parking lines, many drivers left generous amounts of space between the cars next to them. I'm sure that at least a dozen or so spots were lost on Monday as a result of this.
