Wasn't it the repetitive root cause of distraction that was increasing MVA's that caused the laws to change? We all know that it will take a sudden absence of money in your wallet or much worse losing as friend or loved one to distracted driving before the penny drops and behaviour changes.

B&T 402 - "Huffy Indignation" really.....that's quite the psycho babble. The entitled masses will always do what suits them. I'm not third fingering them or beeping at them. I'm simply stating what I've seen. BTW no one has responded on the original question...."do you know if anyone has been charged?"

According to the Halton Regional Police Annual Report, there were 4905 tickets given out in 2013 for distracted driving offences across all of the communities that make up Halton.

That's a lot in my opinion, & with all the media attention this year, I bet there's more for 2014.

HONK! HONK! Pay attention! You're distracted in your own thread!!!!

First off, you are responding to a point I made to King Luis, as he was the one honking at people. So sorry I did not quote him/her in my post. You seem to have gotten confused. And huffy. And indignant.

Secondly, that's not psycho babble. People being in a state of huffy indignation about other people is not too rare, and is (arguably) the root cause of a lot of road rage episodes we see out there. Including the mildest form of road rage: sounding your horn "yelling" at people all day.

Another form of this general concept (HI) would be people craning their necks around scrutinizing the behaviours of adjacent drivers, while operating a motor vehicle. That's the guy you don't want driving behind you, right? Muttering to himself "Oh, would you just look at that guy..." CRASH!

Haha that's great
I knew people were using the foam rubber fake phones but cookie is even funnier

You could eat the evidence in front of the cop when he walks up and asks if you knew why he pulled you over

Yes, but no cop would ever bust you for it. I'm pretty sure the new laws are specific to electronic devices, where eating would fall under the broader negligant driving offences that have existed forever. I could be wrong.

If you tried trolling them with iphone disguised cookies, I can guarantee you're getting a ticket for something.

Nah, if you can make a cop laugh, you’re getting off that ticket. Unless it’s a woman – then your screwed.

Some useful responses for when a cop comes up to the window and asks why you were speeding:

1. “I didn’t know you guys worked at night”
2. Pull out an almost-full bottle of apple juice and say “I really have to go, and I already filled this”
3. “I wasn’t speeding, the sign said the limit was 401!”

They don’t have to be ball busters, just get a giggle out of them and your good.

Despite having cup holders and sh*t in cars, isn't eating and drinking while driving still considered a distraction and therefore illegal?

The distracted driving law specifically quotes "electronic devices" so while a GPS, iPod or cell is illegal, feel free to read a map, play an instrument, or eat your dinner

That was the entire basis behind the trolling police movement (they gave out like 2000 foam rubber iPhones to people to hold up while driving in order to get themselves pulled over)

let me get this straight: Because you may choose to ignore traffic laws, therefore traffic cops are scum? Fuzzy logic. They are only doing their jobs. If you don't like it, take your frustrations out on those who create the laws you find so reprehensible.

Anyone notice the woman driving the crime stoppers car in the parade today texting and driving?

Now my kids are scared of cops.
