Halton needs to keep up with the population and create smaller pick up collection areas. This is effin ridiculous that it takes them a whole day to collect garbage.

Hmmm.... This one might be a little unreasonable.

Garbage pickup is on "Monday" not "Monday morning" or "Monday @ 8:22am." Waiting for the garbage truck is not like being trapped in your home waiting for for a service guy or a delivery to show up. You drop the stuff on the curb and you go about your day. Aside from the wind situation, what does it matter when the garbage gets picked up?

Yes, very windy. And please also be careful when opening your car door and loading groceries; the doors can blow out or your cart can go flying and nail another car. Don't let this happen. My passenger door was damaged today in multiple areas by multiple flying doors at a WalMart, and I am very angry at this.

I believe in Milton especially with garbage pick up every second week we are forced to recycle more than other municipalities thus creating more need to use the blue box and more potential litter in our town. Yes there will most likely be an added cost to go to with the new blue box but just look at how much recycling will actually make it to where it is supposed to go and also how much less litter there will be blowing around in our community. I look forward to a follow up from the upcoming town meeting, and hopefully in the very near future we can put this ever occurring issue to rest once and for all. Thank you Collin and Mike for your insight and to my fellow villagers!

Yea, OK, I didn't say 8:22. I'm not that dumb. And yes, I know it's technically "Monday" which can be all day. But I lived in other municipal areas with decent garbage pick-up times (at least for the recycables), mostly before noon. So I really don't think it's that unreasonable. Btw, the thread started tossing ideas around so one of my suggestions was to check with Halton if there is any way they could re-assign or shrink the collection areas.

Specifically around the question of what does it matter when the garbage is picked up? On a windy day like this it actually would have made a difference if it was picked up earlier. A whole lot less garbage would have ended up on the streets.

This Nedan company sounds good.

Actually, you are, read my subsequent points.

You are confusing to say the least. When the town lists Monday, it means all day Monday. None of this technical BS you bring up, its Monday, get it, Monday. Technically that means they can be there at 11:59pm, which they will never do, so stop getting pissed off about it being picked up at 4:30 you spoiled little brat.

It sure is unreasonable, Monday means Monday. Go back and live in your old municipality with their awesome garbage pickup then. Side question, was it by chance Springfield?

BTW - no it didn't, please read.....

I dunno, maybe scheduling, labour costs, truck utilization... Minor details like these.

So just that I understand this correctly, your "reasonable" solution is to make sure that the staff has extra staff on hand for potential windy days, so that your garbage can be collected before noon? You read what you write before you post, don't you?

I won't even descend to your level. Hiding behind your faceless, nameless ID just shows your lack of integrity and intellect. You don't know me and have no right to insult me with comments like that. Personal attacks like this is completely uncalled for.

Silly Alpha! That's why you park in the "back 40" and not close to the store! :D Especially at Walmart and arenas and library... etc.

Glad to hear you wont come down to my level in the land of common sense and brains, god forbid you learn something.

Well that applies to everyone here (excluding councillors of coarse), including yourself. Sick burn lady.

This is a forum on the internet lady, I'd suggest growing thicker skin or not looking at it while on your period.

None of what I said was a personal attack, rather a statement of fact. Calling you a moron who can't read or think that makes retarded demands to our council would be a personal attack. But I'm above that stuff.

OK...so the fact that it is windy is a pain on recycling day. No doubt.

We stack our bins with heavier stuff on top, we place our heavier garbage bags to hold our lighter yard waste bag in place. Our neighbours don't, and since we're on the end of the street, we get ALL of their garbage in our front yard.

Today, because it was exceptionally windy, we not only had garbage (which we picked up throughout the day, because we happened to be home), we also picked up and stacked several full-size garbage cans that were blowing down our street. One of them hit our parked car (on our driveway) with reasonable force. If the town picked up garbage earlier in the day, these cans would have wound up going even further from where they belonged. Unless you (and all of your neighbours!) are physically home during the day and keep watch, stuff is going to blow around.

I don't think that it's the town's responsibility to handle this situation. You don't like the fact that stuff blows out of your blue box? Do something about it for yourself! Fashion a bungee cord over the top, get some of that mesh stuff that is designed specifically for this (available at most hardware stores). Attach your garbage can lid to your garbage can so that it doesn't go flying down the street when your garbage is collected and the bin is thrown back on your lawn.

For $7, you can get a recycle bin bungee cord from Home Hardware. How much does the problem bother you - enough to spend $7 to fix it? How about a large blue recycle bin with attached lid? $30 from Home Hardware. We aren't talking a fortune here.

If your neighbour's trash is blowing around, point it out to them (nicely - they may not even know that it's happening if they work during the day) and suggest that they do something about it, or buy them the bungee cord and give it to them as a gift.

Every couple of months this topic comes up. If people took responsibility for themselves, this would be a non-issue. Even if the town did produce new boxes, the people who deliberately let their garbage blow all over the place probably wouldn't go out of their way to get them, so I'd rather not see the town waste money on that particular venture.

Question... if you get one of those will they pick it up? I had heard they wouldn't, and the website is a bit vague... it says:

Can I use a bin other than a Blue Box?
No. Use Blue Boxes only. Materials in plastic bags, cardboard boxes, grocery bins, laundry baskets, milk crates, or garbage/recycling cans (with or without wheels) will not be collected.

If it's just a matter of buying one of these from Home Hardware I'm in like Flynn:

Of all the world's problems this is what gets your blood boiling? Really???

If this is your biggest problem in life, you must have a really great life.

Unless the blue box pictured above has some method of securement, perhaps a latch of sort to keep the lid closed. Im not so sure it will solve the problem! Incase the wind blows the blue cart over. Much better than the open top blue box we have now

I don't want the town to constantly waste money on picking everyone's blown litter in our local parks and around the community for that matter. Milton in the last 10 years is looking more like a garbage dump and less like the beautiful town it once was! How will the town look when the population triples again and we go from 100,000 to 300,000. We need to put a lid on it already!
