My free Z10 arrived today. I bought 2 already via Rogers but this was the one you get because you are a BES customer and you do 2 silly tests and install BB10 back end server. Pretty good for free to get a no contract phone.

I should have flipped it on kjiji vs doing the right thing and deploy it to one of my users. lol

Thanks for the intel.

I am currently using a Bold 9900, and like the features of the phone as well as the physical keyboard.
What I don't like is how it freezes often enough it becomes frustrating, and that it (and past BlackBerrys as well) does not sync well with Google services, like email contacts and calendar.
I use many Google services daily including Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive, so seamless syncing and easy access to these features would be a huge improvement if BB10 offers this.
BlackBerry still has enough I like about it I haven't switched to Android, and I'm hoping BB10 will offer the best of both worlds.

Just gotta say that I’ve never understood the appeal of Android. I know they have a great selection of devices, and it looks slick and all, but every one I know says they’re prone to crashes and bugs. I don’t know if it’s true, but that’s the opinion I’ve formed from my second hand accounts.

I have an android tablet and I despise the thing. I just find them flashy on the outside, and flaky under the hood.

The old BB’s stink. I hope the new ones are as good as they look. If your not sold on BB10, go for an iPhone or Windows. At least they’re reliable.

Apple has good app selection but draconian policies for them. Very annoying DRM on phones. Also despite Apple releasing new phone every year they are always behind the tech curve.

Android has best app selection, but way too many garbage apps & the OS is being weighed down by spyware & adware. They tend to have the best hardware (fastest cpu/gpu, network connection, best screen etc) but too many devices have started to look identical. Quality at lower end phones is an issue as is OS fragmentation since most carriers drop support so early (want to sell newer hardware instead).

Blackberry still has best network connection (stability, voice quality) & newer OS (7+) can use WiFi. Hardware is dated though (BB10 took far to long to launch). App selection is nearly non existant compared to all other vendors.

Windows has been trying to make an impact for nearly a decade. App support is in the middle of the road (although older OS6 seems to have been their pinnacle). OS8 is interesting but so far lack of success can be pinned on poor hardware selection. Too much consumer backlash against desktop OS will also take it's toll.

Bada is dead at this point in same boat as WebOS or Symbian.

Threw together this list for our existing users that when we migrate, what will change. Trying to reduce the number of questions from people, and hopefully have some workarounds for those that their are some.

Been pretty happy with the unit overall. Side-loaded a bunch of android apps (realtor.ca, mobilepass, google maps, TED, 4 pics 1 word) and its been fun.

Here's my list of beefs.. I am hoping that prior to the US launch there will be an update that starts to cut into this list. Some of the pain points are because we are on Exchange 2007, but still frustrated as that all worked on BB OS7

No resizing option of picture before emailing
No auto on and off (schedule)
No ability to set multiple alarms (used to just go into calendar and create new alarms at anytime separate from daily wake-up alarm)
Can’t filter messages to deliver/not deliver to device
Can’t set different notifications based on body of email/subject/priority etc – no more concept of level one messages. Can set custom message ring for individuals, but if you have normal emails to be silent, these are also silent.
Can’t use groups you created in your Outlook contacts
Can’t sync ‘Notes/Journal/Memopad’ with Exchange 2007
Can't delete off handheld, but keep in mailbox.
Can’t see Free/Busy for viewing conflicts in other people’s schedule for Exchange 2007
No Blackberry Travel (it’s a native RIM app – it should be there)
Enterprise IM doesn’t reconnect when phone loses data connection.

Really? That's why you went through the process of creating an account on this site, to ridicule running Exchange 2007?

With tight budgets, the benefits from a users' perspective (because frankly, that most of what a business cares about) to move from Exchange 2007 forward isn't there.

Wow time for a software upgrade. I think dragons were still around in 07

Glad someone else has some sanity. For some people, paying SA to Microsoft makes them feel good. For us we bought it back in 2007 and haven't paid them a time (and probably won't until maybe later this year, or 2014). We flipped the userbase to Office 2010 2 years ago, so they really wouldn't notice much of any improvement from going to Exchange 2010/2013 -- we don't use OWA, we really don't want integration of our PBX/voicemail into our email server. Lync is the same issue -- Office Communicator 2007 R2 works really well. Both will have to be replaced in time simply because support for the 'older' platforms will start becoming a problem, but it won't be because of stability issues with 2007, or a raft of new features we don't need.

My network guys will groan a bit that they want to play with new tech, and I get that, but until I have a solid compelling argument to throw cash out, I'm not seeing it.

I think tasks worked for us, it was just notes. Funny to upgrade just because of notes, Microsoft is desperately trying to get rid of it. I think in OWA 2010 you can't even edit notes.

Absolutely. For us, migrating from 2007 to 2010/2013 would cost about $20k with no real benefit to the end user. I now have 2 z10 users complaining about lack of notes/tasks sync.

Another problem for us is we use client certificates to authenticate to active-sync - the z10 doesn't support this (Android/IOS do) - for some reason Blackberry allows using SCEP certs to be used on everything but activesync.

After using the z10 for about 10 minutes I was glad to hand it off to someone else (who is now complaining about it). Still think the company is doomed.

Read a good article about BB10 OS today. It has well explained why QNX based BB10 is a superior OS vs iOS and Android. I know some of you are getting or planning to get Z10 or Q10 (am thinking about Q10 for myself). I hope you would appreciate the article.

This prevents you from seeing the 0-10 threads created by UK kitchen spammers (wtf?) every night, and also prevents new users from posting their stupid ads in the wrong forum. APparently nobody else bothers to approve sh*t around here, and I was on vacation.

Rest assured, nothing that isn't spam doesn't get approved.

People should have to pay to get their first 3 posts approved.

... And that money can go into Rick's legal fund so he can allow people to slag businesses on here, knowing that he can fund a legal defence when he gets those nasty letters.

Okay, fine. Forget the money going to a legal fund. It should just get split up and sent out in the mail to forum members.

I just got BB10 for my wife for her to test it out, she has Nexus 4 and I thought that maybe BB10 will be easier for her to operate.
To me the phone feels a bit cheap in hand, I get that feeling when I hold it and when I run it, it feels as though it's a cheap Iphone clone.
I do not like that the phone has the "Office" look when going through settings, feels like I'm running through MS Office :)
Wonder if she'll like it, otherwise it's going up on kijiji :P
