Anyone know how Oakville convinced Metrolinx to install the new multi-level parking structure? Or how Burlington got one recently? I doubt it was sitting around a table saying 'Those Metrolinx guys won't listen anyway'. Indira is new to provincial politics and doesn't have a hope in hell of getting anything done for Milton. Since this area has historically been a Conservative riding I suspect we won't see anything from the Libs until closer to the next election unfortunately, including acceleration of a MUCH needed parking structure.

No chance Superstore can play ball and offer up any spots. The number of spots required/provided is a bylaw requirement (or Planning Act?) and determined at site plan approval stage relative to the square footage of the building(s). To reduce the number of spots in the Superstore lot by offer them up to GO Transit after the fact would require a variance or rezoning which I suspect wouldn't be forthcoming.

To be fair to Indira, Ted Chudleigh was in his seat for a long time and didn't do anything in the latter part of his term about Metrolinx and the increasing issues with GO Transit. I think it's simply a matter of Metrolinx not prioritizing Milton and seeing that the lack of parking is not a concern, or that adding trains or creating all-day service is a necessity.

I have been taking the GO Train daily since I moved to Milton four years ago. Over the last year alone I've had to park further and further away from the station, and I get to the station every morning between 6:30-6:50 a.m. If I ever took a train later than the 7:03 a.m. I'm sure there would be no spots left, which is clearly why an increasing number of people are creating their own spots parking at the end of each row.

With some regularity I drive to Lisgar station as my parents live close to there. I leave my home at roughly the same time and even with the traffic into Mississauga at that time, I can always get a spot at Lisgar station that is just a dozen or so steps from the train station. Lisgar Station is also much easier to get out of at the end of the day. Trying to get out of the Milton GO Station parking lot is a nightmare. I think any Metrolinx employee who actually had to take the GO Train from Milton on a regular basis would find the entire situation a nightmare, and I'm sure they would be more willing to do something about it rather than continuing to brush us off.

Councillors easy solutions.......fix the problem. That's what u get paid the big bucks for. Representing the people of milton.

I don't disagree with the rest of your point, but $32,000 per year is not my idea of big bucks.

This morning was so awful. People were parking on every corner of the parking lot.

I agree, we had to park at bulk barn. Everyone is parking far to avoid parking tickets.

Can the city administration contact Loblaws Superstore to discuss leasing their parking lot or maybe obtaining parking concessions from them. Even if it's reserved parking the users pay for.

We cannot take no action or wait for Metrolynx as they don't care. Plus they enjoy the extra $$$ from parking fines.

No they won't touch this with a 10 foot pole.

Paying over $300 a month to use the go train to get to work and now they're telling us to drive to Lisgar GO. Hahaha. Right because I want to deal with traffic getting there and back from there everyday. What b.s.

Everyone knows in Milton the last couple of years parking has been a problem at the Milton go lot.
Imagine in a few more years when people take the train with the increased population. It'll be a real pain once they start building a parking structure. Where will all those cars park? Half the lot will be taken up. Just when you thought it was bad now.

They need to expropriate some land to build the structure and move one of the businesses that does not need to be in that area to somewhere north of steeles (link line or the concrete place south of the track). Give them a sweet deal on the land, everyone's happy.

Jawesh, I don't think that they would move a business like link line or the concrete place. Didn't they have to raise the road around the Superstore , when they built the underpass for the train track, or something a few years ago? It would not be economical to move the entire concrete place.

Hi Everyone,

I believe this issue is the most important infrastruture issue we face as a community. As I discussed in the Champion's on-line questionaire, and on Cogeco's taped candidate sessions to be aired next week, I promise that if you vote for me this will be my biggest infrastructure priority. As you will see on my website, and all campaign literature from me, I have listed the parking situation at the Milton GO station as the #1 issue that I will address by voting for me.

This issue to me is our biggest challenge because there are 55,000 new residents moving to Milton over the next 6 - 7 years, and currently the GO station's parking lot is full by 7:30am. Most of the new residents coming to Milton work in Toronto, however the province has said this issue may not be resolved for 18 years. By that time Milton's population will have doubled.

Thank You,
Tony

Great! How?

Did Norts ever get his explanation?

Looks like tony is just as serious about this job as the last time.

This is awesome, he took the bait exactly 10 days before elections.
OK, go ahead tony, tell us the master plan for your #1 priority.
Hold your breath folks, this is going to be epic.

Maybe tony will personally drive people to work - not sure if that's a good idea though.

Alternatively, Tony could opt for the school run to assist those parents losing out on the parking spots at the station as a result of having to drop the kiddies off first. Just think how many he could shuttle about town without the restrictions of pesky annoyances like laws and seatbelts.

All this has me seriously considering moving out of Milton. I am utterly frustrated with the parking situation and not seeing any relief in the near future. In fact with the new developments planned its going to be a nightmare!!!!

I am going to try driving to Bronte this week am giving up on Milton Go.

I just drove to Bronte on Friday since I was starting late. I was lucky to find super close parking... but there was a lot of parking spot in the back of the North lot. They even have a huge lot East of the main north lot... that lot was 20% full. I also found leaving the lot way easier. There is not a lot of east west traffic on the road.

I am still not convinced that a trip to Bronte everyday is worth the $0.90 saving on fare vs. the 40+km you have to drive.

If I take the first or second train in the morning, is parking still a problem?
