The biggest problem I see Milton having is that we still think like a small town, not the fastest growing town in Canada (by percentage at least) - we wait until developer fees are in before spending/building anything. Adding many thousands of homes to SW Milton? wait until they are all built and developer fees are in before we expand Derry Rd. Imagine if they had done the underpass 5 years ago when only a few homes were built - many less issues in traffic. But we refuse to borrow to help manage growth - have to maintain that AAA credit rating, even though we never actually use it!
The other issue is that regional projects are managed by Halton, of which we have only 3 regional councillors.
That being said, Brampton went through something similar when they starting building on both sides of Airport Rd north of Bovaird. My inlaws lived there before moving to Milton, and went through a few years of construction hell before it was done (and then they moved shortly thereafter!)
So in summary - we wait too long to build, and then do 0 coordination between jobs - "let's close Derry Rd and Dymott exit to Tremaine at the same time, and not have LSL open until way afterward. Should be fine! "
