Put mine on today. Sometimes its better to beat the rush. Most tire places get swamped when weather gets bad, and good luck getting those tires on. Best of luck.. :)

This is very true. Get 'em done sooner rather than later unless you can do it on your driveway. Even with yesterday's November Rain, with the colder temps, softer winter tires would have been helpful.

The average vehicle owner will never notice, but I absolutely fcuking hate having to get tires replaced because there is no shop I have ever been to where they have not scratched my wheels. I have to accept that some damage will take place every few years or when a tire repair has to be done. Some damage my wheels have sustained have been minor, others have caused noticeable cosmetic breaches. What I do now is I take it to a dealer - even if it's more expensive where a friend works, and I have him do it carefully to ensure no more damages.

It fcuking kills me that on brand-new cars, you never see a single scatch or breach on the wheels at delivery, which proves to me that there's a way to mount tires without causing any damage, but no technician I know of out there other than close friends in the industry care.

What I commonly see also are tire technicians who put the tread surface of the tire on top of the face of the rim, and this causes nicks because there are often little pebbles embedded in the tread blocks that can scratch.

I'm extra-pissed today bc a tire repair done by Tires23 was not done properly and I had to take it elsewhere. The owner is a fantastic guy and recommend them for new tires and quick service, but I was not impressed by the inconvenience and will never go there for repairs again.

I've spent a couple hundred dollars now on swapping tires on and off rim. I have the same issue with scratches (and one incident I don't think I can speak about, where a new rim was purchased for me).

I have determined I will be buying steel rims for the new year and encourage anyone who hasn't to do so as it will extend the life of your tires and your money.

Found the best price to be at JD tire in town (convenient!), ordered mine from there for install next week.

Hi Kyle and Jay
How was your experience -- would you recommend JD Tire ? I need a new set of tires -- looking for a local option -- either JD or Canadian Tire.
Cheers

I got a quote and will be ordering my tires Wed. I have been dealing with J&D for many years. These guys live & breath tires for a living.

CTC would be a definite mistake.

Do not go to Canadian Tire. Prices suck. Service is even worse.

Very good experience and the price was very fair. Would recommend.

I've had good experiences with Steve at Bargain Tire and Steve at Milltown Tire. Will likely try JD for the first time once I get my rubber.

to the OP, too early can be bad. if its too warm you'll burn up the rubber.

For those living in Original HV, be very careful approaching the left turn lane turning onto Clark from Thompson. There's a sheet of ice in that section that even my winter tires didn't help when it came to braking, so my ABS was going apesh!t. Don't follow so close as you get into the left turn lane and go slow; otherwise you will rear-end someone.

For those of you that swap out to snow tires on dedicated rims, how do you store your mounted All Season tires after you take them off?

All of the wall-mounted tire storage racks that I've seen seem to have the tires upright but I've heard that this can cause issues as the weight of the tire/rim pressing down on the rubber can cause problems with the treads? A few places have told me that they should be stacked horizontally but that would seem like a lot of weight pressing down on the bottom one...

Is one way really better than the other or does it really make that much of a difference to worry about?

don't forget to make sure the wheels are clean also. otherwise the brake dust will just embed itself in the wheel and damage the finish.

We've just installed two sets of tire racks like these from Lowe's in our home:

I just bought a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta snow tires with rims for under $1,000 at Kal Tire. It was worth the drive to Hamilton (in this case at least!); it was the best deal from about six places my boyfriend looked at for me, including buying from the U.S. and shipping to his CBI box (particularly with the exchange rate at this time).
